The Tuesday Notice
January 9, 2024
History and Vision Night is an important milestone in our school year. The event serves as our annual meeting to discuss our financial health as required for our non-profit status. We've taken the opportunity when we gather to expand the scope into telling the story of the history of our school as well as our vision for where we're going. Please join us for this adults-only evening for a moment of reflection, examination of our current reality, and our future path. After refreshments and presentations, join your class teacher for an important class meeting.

Snow Policy
The Siskiyou School follows the Ashland School District’s lead on snow days and driving safety. On days when a snow day possibly may be called, check the District’s website homepage banner at www.ashland.k12.or.us. By 6:30 a.m. the District posts their decision. If the District calls a snow day or late start, we also have a snow day and/or late start.
Exception to the rule: Fridays are the exception. Fridays are always half days for the Siskiyou School, so when the District calls a two-hour late start on a Friday, we do not have school at all. If they call a one-hour late start, we do have school. On late-start days we adjust the day’s schedule to ensure that the children get main lesson.
From the Traffic Team
Parents, please SLOW DOWN as you make your way down Clay Street from Siskiyou! Our neighbors have noted that during drop off and pick up the traffic has sped up and feels unsafe. Please help us out by slowing down. Thank you!
Join us on Thursday, January 24th at 6:30 for our second DEI Circle for Siskiyou Parents. This facilitated circle is the talk about how we embody diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as individuals and integrate it in our community. Led by parents and faculty at the school, we will practice speaking openly and listening deeply about the effects of racism and all the 'isms that we as a community navigate. Only for Siskiyou School parents, but please join if you hadn't come to the previous circle.

We're so proud of the program Ms. Caterina, Ms. Rebecca, and all the inaugural families have helped us build this year, we'd love to have you and your child with us next year! Thank you!
Below are words of thanks for your generosity towards the Teacher Gift Fund and your kind words shared in the faculty and staff holiday cards. Thank you all!
Mr. Alvarez
Dear Siskiyou School Parents,
Happy New Year! It was great to be with everyone at our Winter Assembly. It was a wonderful way to start the winter break. Your children were amazing! Thank you so much for your generous contributions to the teacher gift fund. It helped make this winter break a little easier. Thank you.
Dear Raven Class Parents,
Thank you for your kind and loving words that filled my holiday cards. This brough me much joy and cheer. I am lucky to be part of this wonderful community.
Mr. Smith
To the amazing people!
Most of all thank you for your time. Time, being the most valuable asset in life, is the best gift that anyone can give. Seeing you support the school makes our future bright with the love and hope. To also receive financial support is something like a dream. Thank you again for all that you give. We feel it, and it feels amazing.
Ms. Lawton-Diez
Dear Siskiyou School parents,
Thank you so much for your generous support, both financially and through your time. Your recent monetary gift has been a huge help in relieving my financial worries, and seeing many of you contribute your time to the various school activities and festivities is heartwarming. Your involvement is a constant reminder and testament to the wonderful community we have. I deeply appreciate your contributions, and I'm honored to be your children's teacher. Warm regards and best wishes for 2024.
Ms. Glatte
Dear Parents,
Thank you for your contribution to the teacher gift fund and for your kind words. I wear your generosity like a coat. You give me warmth, protection, and the ability to teach your children with love and kindness. Thank you! As Rumi said, Wear gratitude like a cloak and it will feed every corner of your life. With gratefulness.Ms. James
Dear Siskiyou School Families,
I want to express my deep gratitude for the lovely sentiments you shared on our holiday cards. I've read them over, time and again, finding encouragement on and support every time. Teaching is both an exhilarating and exhausting profession. There is no greater gift than to invest in other people and to have a profession where that's the desired outcome for numerous students daily, simultaneously fills and empties me. Knowing that we are appreciated towards that goal, fills our cups more quickly than we can empty them. Relieving financial strains during the holidays is a welcome reprieve as well. I used that money for my son's gifts and for my own as well! Thank-you to our community and to each of you for a restful and abundant holiday season.
Mr. O'Brien
Siskiyouian Parents,
This being my freshman year getting a teacher card, I was nervous..."What if no one signs mine?" Truly. I fretted. Then – holiday magic! – I open my card to so many kind sentiments they spill onto the back and onto a second. As a lover of language and the written missive, your words are treasures to me. Thank you. It's an honor to be part of this community.
Phyllis Cooley
Dear fellow parents,
It is such a joy to work with you and your children. I am deeply touched by your generosity and warm wishes. Thank you for being our amazing parents!
Dear Siskiyou Parents,
In a recent summarization of many studies, Dr. Dan Siegel (Professor of Pediatric Psychology at UCLA) says that “The strongest predictor of a child’s wellbeing is a parent’s self-awareness.” He goes on to say that there are three main areas of self-reflection that deeply support healthy parenting: Awareness of your history/values; empathy for children through awareness of child development; and supporting children in making sense of emotions. Our offerings at OFR are all in-line with these three things. Take a moment to join us for one of our upcoming gatherings:
JANUARY 16 9:15-10:30 a.m. Intentional Parenting Group limited to 8 Led by Nina Gallwey
This stand alone coffee session will explore what Dr. Dan Siegel calls the 3 Essentials of Parenting noted above. The word ‘intention” originates from “Intendere”—to turn attention towards. This session will support you in looking at ways to clarify what most needing attention as we raise our children in an unpredictable world. We will also work with tools that support our self-care as adults so we can best nourish the children.
January 18, 25, and 2/1 Parenting the Tween Group limited to 8 Led by Nina Gallwey
This three session series offers an in-depth look at the critical development of the EQ (emotional intelligence) of the child bewtween the ages of 7-14 years. As most of us were not educated about how to identify, work with, and express emotions, it is a huge gift we give to our children when we relook at our own EQ and consciously work with this development of the child in our homelife. The way we teach and parent the child at this age sets the stage for lifelong skills in relating to and connecting with others and the world.
“in three sessions I learned more about my daughter and myself than I have by reading all the parenting books. This has completely changed our homelife and deepened my connection with my daughter in the most beautiful way." -A.S. Parent
