Take Home Tuesday

Dear Sward Families,

We are certainly having fun as we inch closer to winter break. Yesterday's Winter Concert was absolutely amazing! Today, the hallways are filled with super adorable holiday characters. Even the Grinch was caught deep in thought during a lesson. Tomorrow brings fun winter classroom activities. Thursday we will see some great sweaters. ...and Friday we will be celebrating the day before winter break in pajamas!

Just a reminder to send your child's permission form in for our classroom parties for this Friday in order to allow your child to eat the PTA provided snack. The party will take place from 1:30 - 3:00 and will be a full school bingo party!

If you choose to send your child to school with anything to share with their classmates, please remember that NO edible treats are allowed to go home with the children. However, non-edible treats are allowed (such as pencils, erasers, or stickers). If your child does bring something edible to distribute please know that it will have to be sent back home with your child since they can't be distributed here at school.

***Any parents volunteering for the first time this school year need to have their ID scanned in office M-TH anytime from 8 - 4*** Due to the business on this day, please try to refrain from waiting until Friday to scan your ID.

As we wrap up 2022, I wish you all a wonderful winter break with many memory making moments and look forward to seeing you when school resumes on Monday, January 9.

District 123 will begin ACCESS testing on January 11. This assessment is given yearly at Sward School and throughout Illinois to monitor the language development of students identified as English Learners. There are four ACCESS test sections that measure speaking, listening, reading and writing. Sward English Learners will participate on various dates between January 11 and mid-February. Please contact your child’s English Learning teacher for more information.

A reminder for our Drama Club for January 11 performance:

• Both actors and stage crew should be to school by 6:30 p.m. in order to get ready.
• Performance begins at 7:00 p.m. in the main gym.

Sometimes medication is needed during the school day. Whether it be prescribed or over the counter, please be aware that a doctor's order is needed for any medication to be administered at school. If no order is received the parent or guardian must come and administer the student's medication. All medication is stored in the Health Office and is not to be kept in backpacks for safety reasons. Medication order forms can be found on our district website or can be sent home with the student.

When you "catch your child" using real life math outside of school, please send a photo and statement of explanation to ckramer@d123.org . Check out this example of our Eagle adding up his score at the end of his golf tournament. The photos and explanations will be added to a "Math Outside of School" bulletin board for all to see.
