Mac El Weekly News
Week of September 1, 2023
From the Principal
The beginning of the school year has been very busy. In order to guide instruction, classes have taken iREADY tests and running records to assess students' reading levels, strengths, and areas of learning. In STEM classes, students have been learning to work collaboratively, complete tasks according to their group roles, and solve problems. Building a strong foundation for learning takes time and effort, but everyone is working hard. Finally, we are looking forward to a three-day weekend! Have a great Labor Day weekend!
From the AP
As we approach the federal holiday for Labor Day, I wanted to take a moment to wish you and your family a fantastic three-day weekend! I also wanted to remind you that we will soon be announcing the first group of PBIS winners for August, as Thursday marked the end of the month. I'm pleased to report that the elementary school students have done an outstanding job of showing respect to their peers and staff members this month. Thank you for setting such a great example for them; it is truly appreciated!
I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate the following students for being Brave Star of the Week: Gannon Best, Zoey Lyons, Greyson Englehardt, and Malayna Dauenhauer. Well done! I hope everyone has a happy and safe weekend!

STEM in our school
What is STEM?
STEM education involves integrating science, technology, engineering, and math in hands-on, collaborative lessons that challenge students to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills on a daily basis.
Harvesting Honecomb
Mrs. Kelly shared the unique experience of tending to the bees and retrieving fresh honeycombs with Mrs. Simpson’s class. They dressed up in their beekeeper suits and watched the process from a safe distance.
Students in Mrs. Chapman’s class applied the STEM process, working as a group in their assigned roles to solve problems and investigate the laws of conservation.
STEM in Speech
Even in speech, students created a bridge and then told a story about the bridge while working on their speech goals.
Breakfast and Lunch Information
Food Service Applications are available on the corporation website.

BRAVES of the WEEK
2nd Grade: Gannon Best
Gannon is a great example of a BRAVE. He often goes out of his way to help his classmates and teachers. We love having Gannon in our classroom and greatly appreciate his help.
3rd Grade: Zoey Lyons
Zoey shows kindness daily and is always willing to help others whenever needed. She is a great example to others and always works hard to do her best.
4th Grade: Greyson Engelhardt
Greyson is such a sweet, hard-working student who always puts forth his best effort in whatever task is asked of him. He has worked very hard this week to master rounding and subtracting. He is a dependable student to his teachers and a friend to his peers. He has been such a joy to have in class so far, and I look forward to the rest of the year!
5th Grade: Malayna Dauenhauer
Malayna has been doing a great job participating in discussions about our stories in the library. She is a good listener and has well-thought ideas in her answers. She has also been working very hard the past couple of weeks, looking for books that are just right for her. She has read some pages to me to see if it is a good fit for her, and if she decides it isn't, she goes back and looks for something better. She is really striving to make good choices in her selections, challenging her reading, yet not finding something too easy. I am so proud of her! Keep up the good work, Malayna, and keep reading!
