Things to remember when Reading to your child.
Open your eyes to some things adult readers tend to take for granted. It’s easier to be patient when we remember how much children do not know. Here are a few concepts we adults know so well that we forget sometimes we ever learned them.
- There’s a difference between words and pictures. Point to the print as you read aloud.
- Words on a page have meaning, which is what we learn to read.
- Words go across the page from left to right. Follow with your finger as you read.
- Words on a page are made up of letters and are separated by a space.
- Each letter has at least two forms: one for capital letters and one for small letters.
These are examples of hieroglyphics.
Imagine how you would feel trying to interpret a book full of such symbols. That’s how young readers feel. But, a little patience (maybe by turning it into a puzzle you can solve together) is sure to build confidence.
Attendance All Day/Every Day 8:00 am - 2:45 pm
- Tardies
- Disruption: Frequent tardies can disrupt the learning environment for late students and their classmates. It may lead to distractions and missed instructions, impacting a student's ability to grasp the material being taught.
- Missed Content: Tardy students may miss important content or announcements at the beginning of a class, which can affect their understanding of subsequent lessons.
- Habit Formation: Chronic tardiness can lead to the formation of poor habits, including time management and punctuality issues, which can have a long-term impact on a student's academic and professional success.
2. Early Releases:
- Incomplete Assignments: Early releases may lead to incomplete assignments or assessments, affecting a student's grades and overall academic performance.
- Limited Engagement: Students who frequently leave class early may not fully engage in the learning process, missing the opportunity to ask questions, clarify doubts, or benefit from additional resources provided at the end of the class.
- Missed Instruction: Leaving class early can result in missing out on critical instruction, class discussions, or assignments, hindering a student's ability to understand and retain the material.
We are here to partner with you to ensure your students are here all day, every day. We have policies and interventions in place to address chronic tardiness and early releases, aiming to support students in improving their punctuality and attendance. These measures may include counseling, parent-teacher conferences, and academic support programs. Call us if you need support.
