Pierce Downer Families,

It is hard to believe we are coming up on our last few weeks of school for the 2022-23 school year. While the learning continues to take place in our classrooms, our weeks have also been filled with field trips, ABC countdown fun, and this weekend, the FUN RUN! Please help support our classrooms by reminding students of the importance of keeping the PD PROMISE and following our common expectations, especially at lunch, recess, in the hallways, and while using the bathrooms.

This week, the district held two vision sessions on Monday and Tuesday evenings dedicated to the 5-year strategic plan. It was so great to see many PD parents and staff members give up their time and play a vital role in developing goals for our district.

Congratulations to this year's DSA nominees: Heather O'Donnell, Monica Eilers, and Jennifer Blair. This annual event provides staff, families, and the community an opportunity to recognize the impact a Downers Grove 58 staff member has made on their lives. Hearing the personal, heartfelt words from each of the nominators was another reminder of how great our home-school partnership is here at Pierce Downer School!

The PTA Summer Math Club is open to students entering grades K-8. It provides participating

students with three math packets for each grade level over the summer that feature a variety of

fun and interesting math activities, designed to keep young math minds active all summer long.

After students submit each completed packet, they will receive prizes and their next math

packet.

1. Your first (white) Summer Math Club packet will be distributed to you at school in the last

weeks of school. Each packet contains three opportunities to earn a prize - triangle, circle and

star. Complete each activity within that shape to earn the prize for that shape. Earn up to three

prizes for each packet! Math activities include a variety of fun options, including Math Task

worksheets that are also included in the packet.

2. Once you’ve completed your white packet, come into the Downers Grove Public Library on

one of the dates listed below to collect prizes for each shape you’ve completed, have your Math

Task worksheets reviewed with a high school student and pick up your next packet.

3. Complete three packets (white, green then yellow) over the course of the summer to keep

your math mind sharp and earn fun prizes!

July 31st, August 1st and 11th

9:30-11:30 am, 5:30-7:30 pm each day

Congratulations to Mrs. Ingersoll on being this week's PD Cup recipient. Mrs. Ingersoll is the Speech Pathologist at Pierce Downer School. Mrs. Ingersoll impacts the lives of every student she supports, opening the door to allow them to participate in social interactions, develop friendships, access their education, and maximize their potential.

Thank you Mrs. Ingersoll for all that you do!

District 58 has partnered with Safe2Help to give students a safe and confidential way to report potential threats or crises. Safe2Help was launched by the State of Illinois in December 2020 and aims to help prevent suicide, bullying, school violence and other threats to school safety.

With Safe2Help, students can connect with a trained crisis professional during their own crisis, or to report a potential threat. Students can submit a Safe2Help alert via the following ways:

District 58 staff are not the initial responders to the alert and will receive each alert after the Safe2Help professional provides support. District 58 staff will review alerts sent by Safe2Help during regular school hours, unless the nature of the alert necessitates immediate school action.
