This Week
Thursday Dinner: : Fall Favorite Foods
All are invited to join us for a fun and healthy dinner this week 5:30-6:30 pm.
This week Rev Sara is still nursing an injured shoulder and could really use help with the dinner! Volunteers are needed to help with dinners, you can sign up here.
This week the dinner will be followed by the children’s class “Lessons of Loss”, the Buddhist group, the UU Christian group, Rev Mary’s Social Justice Book Club, AND All Ages Board Games with Rev Sara. Please bring a board game you’d like to play or come to play a new game someone else brought.
Thursday: UU Christian Group
The group utilizes Kate Bowler and co-author Jessica Richie book Good Enough, 40+ short spiritual reflections on how we can make sense of life. Next meetings: October 12 Chapters 3-6 (pages 15-38).
October 26 NO MEETING – please sign up and join us volunteering for Books Beans and Brownies (BBB) setup! November 9 Chapters 7-10 (pages 39-60). November 23 NO MEETING - Thanksgiving.
Books – Sally Brennand has a few copies of the book for $15 through the 10/12 meeting. Contact Sally Brennand or Eric Ness for questions or to join the list for the group.
Sunday: Young Adults
New Young Adult (roughly ages 18-40) group being offered at OUUC, facilitated by Kedo Baye, on the 3rd Sunday of each month. Young adults will gather for lunch and fellowship with each other at 11:30 am after the worship service. The first gathering will be October 15.
If you have questions or to RSVP you can contact Rev Sara and your information will be passed on to Kedo.
FINAL WEEK TO DROP OFF BOOKS!
BOOKS: October 15 is the last day to drop off books at OUUC.
BAGS: Keep the bags AND smaller easy to carry BOXES coming right up to the day of the sale.
VOLUNTEERS: You haven’t signed up yet? If you have been waiting to let others have first pick, the waiting time is over! Now is the time to go to the SignUp Genius and sign up. Don’t’ miss the chance to be part of the 20th Books, Brownies, and Beans book sale. INVITE: Use this FLYER to invite everyone you see to attend the big event on October 28. Live music, coffee, and brownies, while shopping for books you should be reading. Sounds like a lovely way to spend a Saturday.

Coming of Age for Adults
One Day Left to Join This Class! Coming of Age is offered to UU youth to explore who they are, what they believe, and what their deepest callings and commitments are. Now, adults of all ages can also engage with these big questions and ideas in this 8 week course that explores your life journey so far, community and covenant, theology, spiritual practice, ethics, and more. By the end of the course everyone will craft a personal credo statement that reflects who they are now and what their personal theology is. Those who wish to will share their credos in a worship service with the congregation. Wednesday evenings 6:30-8:30 pm, October 11 -November 29, worship service December 10.

Life Without Notes: A Storytelling Workshop
Have you ever been to an open mic storytelling event? Have you ever wished that it was you up there telling? Here is your chance to learn how. You’ll learn the fundamentals for telling a personal story in the style of “The Moth” (themoth.org.)The rules are simple, it has to be a true story that happened to you and be told in 8 minutes minutes or less. You’ll learn to choose the best topics for personal storytelling, and how to develop character, plot and add texture. Our course will culminate in a storytelling event presented for the OUUC community. Classes on Saturdays, October 14 and October 21 from 1:00 – 4:00 at OUUC and storytelling event on Saturday November 4 in the afternoon. Leader: Zoe Myers. Register Here.
Preparing for Take-Off
Sunday, November 5, 2:00-4:00 pm.
This short workshop is to help us responsibly leave behind enough information for the people we love the most when we die. They will be dealing with grief. The crucial information we provide will help them immensely in the work that must be done after we die. There is no limit to the number of people taking the workshop, but please use the sign up genius so I know how many are attending.

This year we are trying something new in place of our New Member Classes and offering a gathering twice a month for those interested in knowing more about Unitarian Universalism, OUUC, and membership at OUUC. Help Us Keep The Kids Happy!
The cupboards are looking a bit bare, please help us out by bringing in kid friendly shelf stable snack donations. We especially love allergy friendly nut free, gluten free foods to have in the mix.
You can put donations directly into the Religious Education Cupboard in the kitchen or drop them off with Anissa or Rev Sara.
Newcomer Buddies
Members and long-time OUUC friends sought to be “Newcomer Buddies” this year and help newcomers navigate and find themselves welcome and engaged here at OUUC. Buddies will be matched with a newcomer and meet with them about 3 times, help find answers to questions, introduce newcomers to others, and generally help ease new people in to our community. Interested? Reach out to Rev Sara for more information.
Trunk and Treat
Save the Date! Trunk and Treat at OUUC on Sunday October 29, 3:00-4:30 pm.
Youth Pumpkin Carving time 2:00-3:00 pm.
If you are able to bring your decorated car, wear a costume, and hand out candy, we need YOU to make this event successful! You can win a cool prize! RSVP to Rev Sara.
Volunteer Opportunities
Help Beautify the Grounds
Saturday, October 21, 10:00 am-noon
A variety of tasks are available for both the experienced and inexperienced gardener. On the list of tasks are easy weeding, leaf raking, trimming shrubs and weed whacking. Tools are provided, however if you have a favorite weeding tool, hand pruner or gloves bring them along.
Provide Food
Two times this month volunteers from our congregation provide dinner at the Interfaith Works Unity Commons Adult Shelter, and collect shelf stable food for the Food Bank’s “For Kids” weekend backpack program. Still needed on October 18, are 2 main dishes to feed 8 to 10, and 3 side dishes, and on October 25, 1 main dish. Please contact Jo Ann Young to learn more about these two opportunities to help feed children and adults in our community who are experiencing homelessness and food insecurity.
Celebration of Life
Celebration of Life for Chuck Ricketts
On Friday, October 20, the family and friends of Chuck Ricketts will be welcomed for a Celebration of Life service at 3:30 pm, both onsite in the OUUC Sanctuary or on Zoom (link below). A reception will follow for those onsite.

OUUC Sangha Meets Thursdays at 6:30 - We’ll be together at 6:30 pm in Classroom 3 after the Community Dinner. Join us each Thursday to nourish your body and spirit.
Remember to check out the Equity Library in the Religious Education hall and across from Reverend Mary’s office. It's open anytime OUUC is open.

UPLIFT Trans/Non Binary+ Pastoral Space. This is a closed event specifically for trans/nonbinary+ people. Anyone who is trans, nonbinary, metagender, multigender, genderfluid, agender, demigender, genderqueer, and otherwise not wholly or entirely cis is welcome to attend. Friday October 13, 5:00 pm Pacific time. You do not have to be UU to attend, as long as you are comfortable with this space having a UU flavor/focus. Register.
