Permanent Part of the Pride
I'm excited to share that I will be a permanent part of the Goodrell Pride in the TLC room. This semester we will be talking about controlling our brain with natural foods, exercises like yoga and pilates, meditations such as breathing techniques and proper sleep habits.

From the ELL Department
Claudia Kyalangalilwa, who works for ArtForce Iowa, is bringing their Heroes program to Goodrell. The Heroes program offers healing centered youth programming, but it focuses on those youth that identify as refugees and immigrants. In addition, they have secured funding to be able to install a mural in the building created by and informed through student voice and choice.
Two groups of Intermediate-level ELL students were chosen to participate from Period 6: Ms. Mullican's 6th grade and Ms. Militello's 7th grade classes.

Vision to Learn
Vision Screens have been completed. More than 115 students have been referred to the Vision to Learn Van. Look for more information to come after Spring Break.
Attention 6th Grade Parents:
As we head into Spring Break, I wanted to remind you that each 7th grade student needs a Tdap and Meningitis Immunization before the start of the school year. If your student needs one or both vaccines, you will continue to receive a message through Messenger ever few weeks until I receive documentation that your student has gotten the required immunizations.
Please schedule an appointment with your provider for your student to receive their vaccines before the start of 7th grade. Thank You!
Mr. Power's Piece
As the school year enters its final months, there is still plenty left to come on the activities front. Here are a few details you need to know for upcoming opportunities:
Soccer season starts on April 18th, and it will be open to 7th and 8th grade students. There are both boys and girls teams, and they will practice separately. The district is working on a schedule for games, but we anticipate games starting the week of May 2nd. If your student is planning to participate but has not yet gotten a sports physical, please visit the Sports Physical Information page under the Activities header on our website.
Mark your calendars for May 24th because we will be putting on a massive music event at Goodrell featuring our band, orchestra, and choir! More details will be available soon but it is sure to be an epic night of music from our students and music directors.
We are excited to offer a new club starting April 7th called the Coding and Robotics Club. Goodrell MS has partnered with Tech Journeys to offer a six-week club that will feature sessions on coding, programming, and robotics. This pilot program will hopefully get some of our 6th and 7th grade students interested in continuing this club next fall, and there is a possibility that it could evolve into opportunities for our students to join First Lego League!
Reminder that our gym is open from 7:30-8:00 a.m. each weekday besides Wednesday for our students to come in and play sports such as basketball, soccer, and wiffle ball. We are also offering the gym on certain Saturdays for the rest of the year with the next one scheduled for March 26th, and Goodrell students will have the opportunity to participate in a volleyball tournament!
