Call for new AOMAM Board Members
Interested in joining the Board of Directors at AOMAM? We are currently looking for new board members and volunteers to help organize and chair some of our committees.
This is a great way to get involved and know other active members of our profession!
Please email admin@aomam.org for an application, or download one from our website (www.aomam.org)
AOMAM Monthly Membership Options
We are pleased to announce another membership option to better serve our practitioners!
Our website now includes a monthly membership option, in addition to the standard options. The monthly option is $13.00 per month and is a re-occuring subscription for one year.
Legislative Update
We have had two meetings with DHS ‘s Health Advisory Council to discuss improving insurance coverage for acupuncture treatments. The next meeting is this Thursday September 10th with the Health and Services Advisory Council in St Paul.
We are continuing to work on our Dry Needling issues. We are also planning a Legislative Bootcamp coming soon that will be free to attend and help prepare acupuncturists to communicate with our state legislators. It will be a basic training for acupuncturists that are new to how legislation works and what our key messaging is to our legislators.
- Date: Sept 24th, Time 6:00 PM to 8:00PM and location for the Legislative Bootcamp at AAAOM Roseville
Also acupuncturists were present at the Pain Pill Problem Minnesota Moving Forward Together on August 25th. Among them were AOMAM board members John Blaska and Rhonda Witmer and other acupuncturists Bonnie Bolash and Michael Egan to name a few. Courtney Baechler from the Penny George Institute for Health and Healing was a panelist on the Prescribing & Pain Culture.
Legislators and Law Enforcement that we need to stay in contact to keep the ball rolling.
- Governor Mark Dayton
- United States Attorney Andrew Luger
- Senator Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken
- Congressman Tom Emmer
- Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek
Also of equal importance, is the call to fundraise for the 2016 legislative support. It will be critical to help move some of these initiatives along, but as with most things these days, it requires both time and money.
Our goal is to maximize our legislative impact as much as possible, and we will fundraise heavily this fall leading into early winter when the time begins again to budget for lobbyist/legal support.
We need your help! Your input! Your support!
Donate today online (www.aomam.org) or on our GoFundMe site....every and any amount goes towards reaching our goals and is EXTREMELY appreciated (and needed).
Another way to help us fundraise is to become a member or renew your membership. As many of you know, our organization is run by a volunteer Board of Directors. ALL of the fees and money raised via fundraising and membership goes towards our strategic objectives and minimal operating costs.
Please do so online and spread the word to your colleagues!
Medtronic's Twin Cities Marathon Health and Fitness Expo
This is a two day tabling event (no acupuncture treatments). Association membership is required to be a volunteer at this event.
Our focus is to educate the public. Connect our membership with the potential new clients by using our Membership list. If you are not a member please join so we can put you on the list of “Find me an Acupuncturist List.”
Volunteers can email Aaron with questions: aschindler@nwhealth.edu

"Pain.Pill.Problem" - next steps
Our next KFAI topic, and ongoing focus for our PR Committee , will be on the opioid prescription problem and pain management discussion.
Last month we started gathering relevant information from the "Pain. Pill. Problem" summit hosted by the UofM, current research from the Penny George Institute, along with other national updates/articles.
Now that we have all of this information, awareness of the issue, and public demand for change, what do we do next to help position our profession as viable options for pain relief and patient care?
Interested in joining the conversation? Or just want to call in and ask a few questions during the show? Please do!
This is open to all, so don't hesitate to join if you are interested!

Licensed acupuncturists in Minnesota are nationally board certified medical practitioners, licensed by the Board of Medical Practice.
- Acupuncture is the insertion of any solid core needle into the body that is intended to elicit a therapeutic response.
- No other professional is as highly trained in all strategies for using acupuncture than a Licensed Acupuncturist.
- Acupuncture has been proven to effectively treat acute and chronic health conditions and diseases. It is less expensive and less invasive than many other standards of care.
- Acupuncturists are one of the only medical professionals trained in true preventive care including nutrition and lifestyle practices.
- The expertise of acupuncturists is highly recognized and they are being integrated by the top medical facilities in the country including serving our troops in our military hospitals.
- The Joint Commission recognizes acupuncture as a more effective resource for pain management than drug therapy.
The Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Association of Minnesota (AOMAM) is a non-profit, professional organization of Licensed Acupuncturists who are dedicated to promoting the benefits of Acupuncture to all Minnesotans. We are educating our representatives and advocating for safe and affordable holistic healthcare via acupuncture.
HERE’S WHERE YOU COME IN! Your donation will help AOMAM do the following:
- Educate the public on the distinct benefits that only acupuncturists are trained to provide
- Ensure that patients are treated safely and effectively by Licensed Acupuncturists.
- Ensure acupuncture is covered by insurance companies to make it affordable for all acute and chronic conditions.
- Enable state representatives and professional colleagues to better understand that qualified integrative medical resources are available for better patient care today!
Make healthcare more accessible for you and your family! Make a donation today to help us reach our goal! Thank you.

Acupunture Now Foundation - On Amazon Smile!
Just wanted to let people know that our love of Amazon online shopping could (also) go towards supporting the "Acupuncture Now Foundation".
Remember, if you want Amazon to donate to Acupuncture Now Foundation Inc, you need to start each shopping session at the URL http://smile.amazon.com, and we will donate 0.5% of the price of your eligible purchases.
Perhaps, AOMAM should look into this as well to help us reach our fundraising goals...
