TES SCOOP
2nd SIX WEEKS SEPTEMBER 18TH- OCTOBER 27TH
WE'RE ALL ON THE SAME TEAM!
1, 2, 3...GO TIGERS!
A HUGE thank you to my elementary staff for all of their hard and creative work that helped make our Homecoming 2023 a sweet success! Big thanks to all of our parents who contributed supplies and money to help our floats come to life. Our staff begins working on these floats several weeks in advance often after school or during their conference.
Congratulations to our students who showed PERSEVERANCE and were recognized by their teachers and coaches during the 2nd Six Weeks. We want our Tigers to always keep trying even when things get hard, whether this be in academics, p.e., or band. Congratulations also goes out to the students who earned their TIGER lanyard for the 2nd Six Weeks.
Our PK 4, Kinder, 1st, and 2nd graders completed their Wave 1 (or BOY beginning of year) testing. Every family should have received a parent report with their results. On the report, there is a website or QR Code that parents can click to find resources to help your children at home. Anything in green means the student is on track for their grade level at this time of year, yellow is approaching, and red means your child may need extra support. Our teachers pull small groups based on their needs and based on the results of informal and formal testing. Our 1st-6th graders take monthly ISIPS on IStation. Based on their results, IStation creates lessons and goals based on their individualized needs. Our 4th-6th graders also take beginning of the year tests to see what they already know in Reading Language Arts, math, and science.
The most commonly asked question I get asked is how can parents help their child at home. Here are my top tips:
- read to and with your child every evening before bed (20 minutes of reading per day exposes readers to 1.8 million words per year!)
- make sure your child is getting enough sleep and limit screen time as much as possible
- encourage outdoor/physical play
- talk with your child about what they learned at school(avoid yes/no questions); for example, tell me three things you learned in class today
- make sure your child is on time each day; when they arrive even 5-10 minutes late, that means some of them are missing their reading or math small groups.
A few important reminders:
- Basketball season is around the corner, and we are excited to see all of our elementary Tigers cheer on our big kids. Please remember the Special Events Center is a large area with people coming from all over to watch our athletes compete. We need to keep the upper deck as clear as possible, so all of our fans can enjoy the games. This is NOT a place for children to run and play. A new policy(this will be mailed home Tuesday) will be put in place beginning this Thursday, November 9th at our first junior high game.
- Please continue to make sure to call the elementary office and make all transportation changes BEFORE 2:30PM each day; this helps give us time to get those changes out to students and their teachers; it also alleviates congestion in the office during the busiest time of the day.
- Cold weather is finally here! PLEASE make sure you label all jackets/sweatshirts (or anything you think your child removes during the day) with their first/last name. This makes it easy to return lost items to your child.
I became a 2nd Grader!
Thanks to 2nd grade's 98% attendance the 2nd Six Weeks, I followed through on my promise to join 2nd grade last Friday, November 3rd. I added double digit equations, read a story and took a test, played Kahoot and Gimkit, ran relays in P.E. and got some typing in the last period of the day. As of Monday, I am still recovering:) Second grade parents should know they are in EXCELLENT hands with Mrs. Garcia and Ms. Bickham. They did not take it easy on me!
End of 2nd Six Weeks Drawing
At the end of each six weeks, we do a random drawing from all students who received a positive office referral, made the honor roll, received the perseverance award, or earned a TIGER lanyard.
OCTOBER 4th GRADE TIGER OF THE MONTH
Congratulations to Presley Tatom who was voted Tiger of the Month in October. Presley is one of our PAWS members this year; you can find her opening car doors in the morning as well as helping with announcements.
