This change will be in effect beginning Monday, August 29. As a result, students who ride Bus 6127 in the afternoon will arrive home later than normal. 6127 students may wait with school staff in the bus loop or International lobby to await the arrive of their substitute bus. We will provide updates as we receive them from the transportation department.

Dear Silver Spring International Families,

It's GO TIME! Our teachers and staff are ready to welcome all our Jaguars to school Monday, August 29, 2022. 7th and 8th graders should bring their charged chromebooks and chargers to school in their carrying cases. 6th graders will receive their chromebooks from school in their Science class on Monday and Tuesday. Please remind your child to bring this device to school every day and charge it every night.

All student schedules are viewable on ParentVUE/StudentVUE as of Wednesday, August 24th. Staff members will be stationed throughout the building to guide students to their first period classes on the first day of school. They will receive paper copies of their schedules in first period.

I am holding a community meeting for current SSIMS Parents/Caregivers and 5th grade Parents/Caregivers in our feeder elementary schools Wednesday, August 31st at 6:30 pm in the Northwood HS auditorium. This event is designed to get reacquainted with our school, our programs, goals for the year, and to meet key staff. It's a good time to connect as a Jaguar family and I hope you will join us! Spanish translation will be provided.

Join the Listserv today so that we may share information, get immediate feedback, and stay in touch on important issues. You can sign up by sending an email to SSIMSptsa+subscribe@groups.io and include your affiliation with the school in the body of the email (for example, "I'm a guardian of a SSIMS 6th-grade student.").

As we begin to start the school year, we want to share some information regarding chromebook use for SY23. Our 7th and 8th grade returning students should already have a chromebook and charger and are expected to bring them to school every day starting on the first day of school. Our 6th grade students will receive chromebooks during the first week of school and are expected to bring them every day.

We will not have extra chromebooks for students to borrow for the day if they forget them at home. Students will engage in alternative activities in class if they do not have access to chromebooks. Please encourage your student to bring their chromebooks every day. If students need technology support during the year, they should go to the Media Center at the beginning of the day before 1st and 2nd period.

Students' use of PMD (Personal Mobile Devices) will be limited to use before and after school only. This includes cell phones, air pods, smart watches, and personal computers. The expectations regarding PMD use will be shared with students during the first week of school. Teachers may choose to allow PMD use in their classroom for instructional purposes only. They will be explicit on when and how PMD's may be used. If students do not follow the expectations, consequences will occur including confiscating the device. See the chart below for more information about how we will be monitoring this.

The Mental Health and Well-Being of our community is a huge priority to us and is a major component of the district's Well-Being and Family Engagement focus.
