Friday, November 13th is the last day of our first trimester. For those of you new to Valerius and UCSD, we divide our academic year into three trimesters for reporting.

You can expect your child's progress card to come in your email on Friday, November 20th.

Not getting the details you want when you ask, "How was your day?" Try this...

During our professional development we are studying creative strategies to increase student feedback, recognition, goal setting, and voice & choice. As part of our study this week, I came across a great activity called Think Dots. As a result, I created a THINK DOT activity that you could try at home.

I will be sending home print copies next week. You cut out the dice and fold it so that you have a six sides of questions. Then, you roll the dice at the dinner table, in the living room, at bedtime, in the car and your student(s) can share their answers. The different types of questions help to elicit different responses and hopefully you start to see a broader picture of your students day.

VALERIUS NIGHT AT PANERA- TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 10th

Parents- give yourself a night off of cooking and dishes! Order your families' meal from Panera on 86th street in Urbandale, and be sure to let them know you are with Valerius Elementary. We had a hugely successful turn out last year, and raised over $300 for our school.

We are in need of a part time general education associate. The schedule is from 9am-1:30pm. This person works with our youngest learners 1:1, as well as supports our lunch and recess schedules. If you know anyone interested, please share!

COLD WEATHER GUIDELINES

As the temperatures begin to dip, please remember to send appropriate cold weather gear. Below are the guidelines we use across Urbandale for our winter weather requirements:

When temperatures fall below 40 degrees, students are required to wear coats and pants (not shorts) out to recess.
If there is snow, students must-have boots, snow pants, hats, & gloves to play in the snow. If you are in need of winter gear please reach out to your child's teacher. We're happy to connect you with what you need.
When temperatures fall below 10 degrees with windchill, we will have indoor recess.

Please note that temperatures inside the building can vary and it is always helpful for your student to have an extra layer available in their locker in case they are cold.
