G.R.E.E.N. (Garden Resiliency & Ecological Education in Nature) Committee
We enthusiastically invite teachers and parent volunteers to join the G.R.E.E.N. (Garden Resiliency & Ecological Education in Nature) Committee and help in paving a path toward a true “Panther Paradise.” Our committee will help build a robust, healthy outdoor education program by focusing attention on the garden and other greenspaces on the Riebli campus.
Our goal is to inspire students through hands-on earth sciences projects, experimentation with sustainable technologies, and with nature-based arts and crafts, in an engaging outdoor classroom setting.
Why do our students need this? Through interactions with the natural world, students can gain a new perspective on what it means to build community, the way the ants and bees do. They will learn about biodiversity and why it is so vitally important to the health of the planet. They may even feel inclined to make healthier choices for themselves as they will have the opportunity to reap the literal fruits of their labor, developing a sense of pride in earth stewardship.
Volunteers (of any experience level) are needed and welcomed.
Are you interested in gardening, but don’t have a green thumb? Don’t worry. There are endless opportunities to show our Panthers that we care about the planet by supporting this endeavor. This can be through the generous giving of time, including experienced skilled work (we have a desperate need for rain barrels -crafting/installation, etc.). Or perhaps you have a knack for securing sponsorships (local businesses could sponsor individual garden beds, etc.). Or maybe you are a highly-organized person who would love to start a seed bank.
In addition to time and monetary donations we’re also accepting new or gently used gardening materials, for example:
Materials for creating irrigation, hoses, watering cans or oyas/ollas
Organic seeds, plugs or plant-starts
Organic soil & amendments like coconut coir, peat moss, vermiculite & mycorrhizae
Tools, seed trays, plant pots, grow bags & harvest baskets
Wine barrels to convert into rain barrels, and materials to build stands for them to rest on
Please reach out if you’d like to volunteer or if you have an excess of unlisted outdoor/landscaping materials. To show your Panther Pride and get involved, or to simply find out more, email rieblipantherparadise@gmail.com
Thank you.
