A MESSAGE FROM MRS. LUNA
Hello Hilltop families,
A short week, a late-start, and a field trip (5th grade) made this week one where we all had to be flexible. This is a great life skill for children to learn young because adulthood requires it out of all of us at some point. We are looking forward to a full 5-day week next week.
With the late-start on Thursday, our 4th graders will be traveling to the Treaty Site History Center in St. Peter to learn about our area in the 1800's and the people who lived here. The 5th grade students took their trip there today. If you have not been there, on February 4th there is a free family day. We only saw a portion of what they offer and the kids were really interested in what they were learning about our area.
PTO is in dire need of volunteers. If you are interested in helping out in any capacity, please send an email Park/Hilltop PTO at pto@isd2397.org.
We will be doing a PBIS reboot at Hilltop starting next week. The philosophy behind PBIS is catching kids doing the right thing and even going above and beyond. When someone sees them going above and beyond, they may be given a "Caught Being Good" ticket. These tickets can be saved and used at our school store. Our next school store will take place in February. If a child is not meeting expectations, they will be given a STAR reporting sheet. On this sheet, they will walk through what they were doing, potential causes for their behavior and a plan on how they can change their behavior. If your child brings one of these home, please have a conversation with them about their behavior, sign it and return it to his/her classroom teacher. An example of the STAR reporting sheet is below.
Have a great weekend!
Yours in education,
Mrs. Christa Luna

I do want to point out that one extremely nice feature of this is that we can continue to earn money from participating merchants and all people need to do is connect with the merchant through our school's link.
Here is an example of mine:
If you go down to "Shop at National Merchants" it will take you to over 400 merchants that are participating such as Sam's, Walmart, Kohls, Best Buy, etc. When you purchase from a merchant through our school store link, the merchant gives donates a % back to us! No extra sales! It's that simple. The money we raise will be put toward our new school and playground.Hilltop Elementary
