2018-19 Class Placement Input
Creating balanced class lists that meet the needs of all students is a tremendously difficult job that takes many hours of thoughtful dialogue between classroom teachers, specials area teachers, specialists and the principal. We at Oak Grove take this process very seriously.
We welcome any insight you wish to share about your child. We will take into consideration pertinent information about your child’s learning style and needs, received in writing on or before Friday, May 4th, 2018. While we welcome your input, specific teacher requests will not be honored. Please send your input to me by email at fenton@ogschool.org.
The following describes the process for creating balanced class lists:
Classroom teachers consider the social-emotional and academic needs of each student
Parent input is considered
Grade level teams collaborate to form draft class lists that are balanced in terms of the academic, social and emotional needs as well as considering friendships and other factors
Specialist Team members (social worker, speech, special education, etc.), the Fine Arts Team (Art, Music, P.E.) and the principal provide input as well during this process
Class lists are finalized in August due to account for summer movement. We cannot make changes once this process occurs, as moving one child can disrupt the balance of a class, impacting all students
We strongly believe that this detailed and collaborative process creates learning environments that benefit all students. It is a delicate balancing act which takes much consideration and thought by professionals who know and care about your children.

Reading Curriculum Review Scheduled for April 2-9, 2018
This year, the curriculum review cycle looked at reading resources for K-8. In the fall, teachers participated in a product review day with vendor presentations. Teachers completed comprehensive rubrics which then determined which products would continue to be looked at through a pilot unit of study. At the conclusion of the unit, teachers reflected again on the rubric to add additional details of information. After all pilots had been completed, additional teacher feedback was requested. After reviewing the rubrics, alignment to the state standards, and ability to meet the district's mission of providing daily differentiated instruction, product decisions were recommended for purchase.
The next step in the review cycle is to receive stakeholder feedback about the potentially purchased resources before the final recommendation is made to the Board Of Education. If you are interested in reviewing the reading resources, they will be available in the District Office, April 2nd through the 9th, from 8 am - 4:30 pm.
