Our theme at Lowell this year is "We are Lowell...CORE is our Superpower!"--Civility, Order, Respect, Excellence. We are encouraging students to embrace this challenge and achieve them.

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Lowell Families,


Just a reminder that ILEARN Testing begins next week for our 3rd and 4th grade students. This is the state mandated standardized assessment. Our students have been working very hard to prepare for these assessments. Third graders will take English/Language Arts and Math assessments. Fourth graders will take English/Language Arts, Math, and Science. Our students will test for approximately one hour each day over the course of the next 9 - 12 days. Our students know that one test does not define them. We simply want each student to do his or her personal best! That is what matters the most! Thank you for encouraging your children to stay motivated and to do their best! We believe in them!


Our Lowell Spring Book Fair is in full swing! Students will have an opportunity to visit the Book Fair while at school over the course of next week. They may purchase books during the school day throughout next week. The Book Fair will also be open during Spring Fling and Dance next Friday. This is a great opportunity for students to get some new summer reading material!


Speaking or our Spring Dance, it is scheduled for next Friday, April 26 from 6:00pm -8:00pm. We will have games, bingo (win some yummy donuts), face painting, the Book Fair, and a DJ playing some great music in the gym! Concessions will be open all evening if you would like to have dinner or a snack. We hope many of you are able to join us for this fun family night!


On Wednesday, May 1, the District is hosting a Community Forum from 6:00pm - 7:30pm at Creston Intermediate Academy (10925 E. Prospect Street) to discuss the proposed 5-8 Experience at the intermediate/middle school levels as well as the 3-Tier Bussing proposal. We encourage families to attend this forum and provide feedback. If you would like provide input or feedback prior to the community forum, please click on the links below.

ILEARN TESTING BEGINS MONDAY, APRIL 22 -- GRADES 3 & 4

Students in grades 3 & 4 will begin taking the ILEARN Assessment on Monday, April 22. Students will test for approximately one hour/day over the course of 9 -12 school days. Our students have been working so hard to prepare and WE BELIEVE IN THEM! Our student know that one test does not define them! We simply want students to do their personal best every day! That is what matters the most! Thank you for supporting your children and encouraging them to do their best! Please make sure students are well rested over the course of testing and arrive at school on time every day! Attendance is always important but even more so during this testing window! We appreciate you scheduling appointments around testing so students will be at school every day! Thank you!

Congratulations to our Robotics Team! They are going to WORLDS!!!!

At the State Competition last weekend, all five of our robotics teams earned an invite to the World Competition in Louisville, Kentucky! At the Worlds Championships, our students will get to compete with robotic teams from countries far and near! It is quite the experience! We are so excited and proud of our team and wish them the best of lucks at Worlds in Louisville!

Do you own a business or know a business owner who would like to support our Robotics Teams?

We are currently looking for corporate sponsors and/or donations to support our Lowell Robotics Teams in the Vex I! World Competition. The World Competition will be held in Louisville, Kentucky at the end of April. As a result, we need to secure overnight accommodations for our team as well as securing other associated costs related to the championship event. Corporate donations are tax deductible, and we are happy to provide businesses with a donation letter confirmation receipt. Read and Rise at The Early Childhood Center

Read and Rise at The Early Childhood Center


The Indianapolis Urban League is teaming up with The Warren Early Childhood Center to offer a program, Read and Rise, to our parent community. The foundation of the program is aimed at promoting reading and literacy development in the home.


ECC will host three family literacy workshops as outlined below:

  • Thursday, April 25; 6:00-7:15 p.m.- Focus on Birth to Age 4

  • Thursday, May 9; 6:00-7:15 p.m.- Focus on Kindergarten and 1st Grade, up to age 7

  • Thursday, May 23; 6:00-7:15 p.m.- Focus on 2nd Grade and 3rd Grade, up to age 9

The Indianapolis Urban League will teach the workshops, provide dinner, and provide how-to guides for parents and reading materials for children. ECC will provide child care for families whom would otherwise not be able to attend. We hope many of our Warren parents will be able to attend this great program!

Fro-Yo Friday

Our students LOVE to buy Fro-Yo on Fridays at lunch for $1.00. We need parents volunteers to sell Fro-Yo every Friday!

Weather Delays/Closing

Information regarding school delay/closing can be obtained by listening to your favorite radio or TV station. Our automated calling system will call the home of all students using the number you have supplied to the school. Call will occur as early as 5:30am and will report either delays or closings due to the weather. You can also go to www.warren.k12.in.us for closing info.

Cell Phone Protocol at Lowell

We always welcome and encourage parents and family to visit our school. While visiting, we ask that you are mindful of your cell phone usage while in the building. Please silence your phone and wait to take phone calls until you have exited the building. We utilize every minute of the school day to focus on instruction. We ask that cell phones be silenced and conversations to be put on hold if you are eating lunch with your child. Private phone conversations should not take place in front of students.

FRIENDLY TIPS AND REMINDERS

* Students are expected to be at school on time every day. Our tardy bell rings at 8:40am. Please plan accordingly to ensure your child is in his/her classroom by 8:40am each day.

* If your child will be absent due to illness or late due to a doctor's appointment, please call the front office at 317-532-3900 to report the absence or late arrival. This helps to ensure your child's safety. Please bring a doctor's note to document the excused absence.

* Dismissal is at 3:40pm. If you are picking up your child from school, please follow our car rider procedures.

* When arriving at Lowell, please make sure you stop first at the front desk. All visitors MUST sign in and put on a Lowell Badge while in the building. Safety is our top priority for our students. This process allows us to ensure every child's safety during the school day. Thank you for your cooperation.

* Parents are always welcome at Lowell! If you would like to visit your child's classroom, please call or email your child's teacher or Mrs. Griffin so we can make arrangements and ensure that the students will be in the classroom at the time of your visit. We encourage you and welcome you to always be a part of your child's learning, and we truly value your involvement!

* Please remember that our Lowell Campus is a smoke-free campus. There is no smoking allowed anywhere on Lowell grounds. This includes smoking in your cars while on the Lowell Campus.
