I would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our GLOBE Trot volunteers and staff who worked tirelessly to make this year's event such a huge success! We could not have done it without all of you. Every gift was meaningful and much appreciated.

The funds raised will directly support the school and our operating budget. The students had a great time and as we reached 100% participation they were able to enjoy the Kona ice truck. Thank you again for investing in all the students and staff here at The GLOBE Academy.

Earlier this week, you should have received the first edition of Whoo’s Wondering, in which Executive Director Christi Elliott-Earby and Board Chair Ryan Hudak answered a selection of questions that you submitted. The GLOBE Counseling Department will be coordinating school wide 'One Kind Word' activities throughout the week. ChocoLaté Coffee has kindly donated some cardboard coffee holders that students are decorating with kind words and drawings. ChocoLaté will be collecting these at the end of the week and passing them out to the community. Morning announcements also include a question and a quote for students to think about, and students are writing kind words/messages to display in the hallways.

PLEASE NOTE: There are no dress-up days planned for this week. Students are expected to be in full uniform on Oct 28 and either full uniform or spirit wear on Oct 29. We will also return in full uniform on Nov 01. Please do not wear Halloween costumes to school.

Today (10/27) at 6pm - The 7th and 8th grade orchestras will be performing their first concert of the year in the UC parking lot at 6pm. If you would like to join us, please bring a camp chair or blanket to sit on. We would love to see you there!

Students should be dressed in their orchestra shirt and jeans and will need to be in the auditorium by 5:30pm to pick up and tune their instruments.

Please note that 'Dress Down Thursdays' were only for the month of September. Students should now be wearing their school uniform.

Thank you to all our GLOBE Trot volunteers and staff who made this event a success. Not only were we able to hit our goal of 100% school participation, but we also raised more than $134,000 that will directly support the purchase of school technology and classroom supplies. Students were able to skip, run, race and have fun on Friday, they also took home some amazing prizes and enjoyed Kona Ice! Thanks to our entire GLOBE community and sponsors for their support!

Fall Banquets

The soccer banquet will be held on Wednesday, Nov 03. The volleyball banquet the following day on Thursday, Nov 04. Both banquets will start at 3:30pm and finish at 5pm, and will take place at the covered tables in front of the school. Due to Covid restrictions we will meet outside for awards and ice cream treats.

There are several ways we communicate with GLOBE families, and we are continuing to work to improve their effectiveness. In addition to this newsletter, be sure the channels below are on your radar.

• Weekly teacher emails: Every Friday, you will receive an email from each of your child's teachers, with details on what they're doing at school. Not receiving these? Please let us know. (You can of course email the teachers with any questions, too.)
  
• Remind text alerts: Remind is a service that we use to send time-sensitive alerts via text message. (There's also an app available.) If you haven't yet signed up for this, please do so by texting @globers to 81010 for whole school updates.

  For Upper Campus messages, send a text message to 81010 with the message @ucgl

  For Lower Campus messages, send a text message to 81010 with the message @lcgl

• GLOBE website: This is a go-to source for enduring information. (There's a search option in the top right corner to make it easier to find what you need.)
• GLOBE Facebook page: Don't use social media? No problem. While we know Facebook is useful for many, any critical information shared here will also be shared on other channels.

All meetings of the Board of Directors are open to the community. You can find the full calendar of board meetings here. In advance of each meeting, the board will publish the meeting agenda and issue a call for public comments, and after each meeting, minutes and a video link to the meeting will be shared.

GLOBE's governing board comprises volunteers who lead committees focused on Academics, Communication, Development, Diversity, Facilities, Finance, and Strategic Planning; this year, a committee will also convene to renew GLOBE's charter. If you are interested in serving on a committee, please contact board chair Ryan Hudak.

This newsletter is intended for the families of GLOBE students. Please share your feedback, so we can continue to improve how we disseminate information about what's happening at school.
