As we head into the Thanksgiving break, I would like to share Volume 2 of the 2021-22 COVID-19 Health and Safety Playbook with you all. Refer to Covid Corner, later in this newsletter, for further information. In other news, there are just a few weeks remaining to get 25% off GLOBE athletics wear. Remember to pack a spare mask in your backpack. Always wear your mask correctly to cover both your mouth and nose.

There will be a slight change to the menu on Thursday. Simply Elegant will be serving chicken sandwich with corn.

Lower Campus

If your child is scheduled to be in aftercare (including enrichment), but you would like to pick them up earlier in carpool, please either wait until after 3:10pm or send us an email as early in the day as possible to allow sufficient time to prepare.

Please do not park on Briarwillow Drive. This has been noted in the Family Handbook for the past few years. Parking there, particularly in the afternoon, makes pedestrian crossing especially difficult.

Upper Campus

MAP testing will begin the week of November 29. Teachers will communicate the testing schedule directly with parents, as it is not necessarily consistent between classes and rather is based on individual scheduling.

Lower Campus Book Fair

Fall Lower Campus Book Fair will be taking place virtually from November 29 to December 3. Support our school and help your child discover new books, favorite characters, complete series, and more. You’ll enjoy free shipping on book-only purchases over $25!

PTCC open meeting, December 2, 8-9pm

Discover more about the PTCC and their activities to support the school and GLOBE community. Most importantly, they want to hear from you! Join them and share your thoughts about priorities and recommendations for the PTCC. Look out for more information and the Zoom link in the December 1 newsletter and on social media.

Staff Gift Fund - Help support our teachers

The PTCC Staff Gift Fund supports our passionate, hard-working, dynamic teachers and staff who help our children every day. Click here to make your donation. If possible, a donation of $50 per child, per school year is encouraged, however, any amount is greatly appreciated.

GLOBE Royalty Programs

As you start your holiday shopping, remember to link to GLOBE’s royalty programs. You can earn donations just by shopping at Amazon, Publix, Kroger and more. Check out their flyer for instructions.

Lower Campus Lost & Found will be cleaned out by Thanksgiving break. If your child is missing an item, send an email with a description and name tag information (if applicable). If your item(s) can be located, you will receive an email to arrange for collection.

Admissions season is fast approaching. GLOBE families, you are our best advocates. Share news about our school with your friends and neighbors. Virtual tours will take place via webinar this year. Do you still have a blue GLOBE yard sign? If so, please reach out to Admissions Director, Meg Brown megan.brown@theglobeacademy.net. It’s time to place them in your front yard or in high traffic areas.

Square 1 Art is a school fundraiser that allows students to create gifts and keepsakes with their own art. A portion of the proceeds return to GLOBE for use in the Art department.

To order, visit the Square 1 Art website and follow the instructions to view your child's artwork and order code. The deadline for orders is November 22, 2021.

Due to COVID and some absences at school, some students' art was digitally uploaded and wasn't done in time to have their own catalog printed. However, all artwork can be found on the Square 1 Art website. Order now and receive your items in time for the winter holidays.

Vaccine survey

We encourage our GLOBE community to complete this vaccine survey being conducted by Emory University. The survey is 100% anonymous and it will assist in gauging interest in hosting a vaccine clinic on campus and addressing any common misconceptions within the community.

There are several ways we communicate with GLOBE families, and we are continuing to work to improve their effectiveness. In addition to this newsletter, be sure the channels below are on your radar.

• Weekly teacher emails: Every Friday, you will receive an email from each of your child's teachers, with details on what they're doing at school. Not receiving these? Please let us know. (You can of course email the teachers with any questions, too.)
  
• Remind text alerts: Remind is a service that we use to send time-sensitive alerts via text message. (There's also an app available.) If you haven't yet signed up for this, please do so by texting @globers to 81010 for whole school updates.

  For Lower Campus messages, send a text message to 81010 with the message @lcgl

• GLOBE website: This is a go-to source for enduring information. (There's a search option in the top right corner to make it easier to find what you need.)
• GLOBE Facebook page: Don't use social media? No problem. While we know Facebook is useful for many, any critical information shared here will also be shared on other channels.

All meetings of the Board of Directors are open to the community. You can find the full calendar of board meetings here. In advance of each meeting, the board will publish the meeting agenda and issue a call for public comments, and after each meeting, minutes and a video link to the meeting will be shared.

GLOBE's governing board comprises volunteers who lead committees focused on Academics, Communication, Development, Diversity, Facilities, Finance, and Strategic Planning; this year, a committee will also convene to renew GLOBE's charter. If you are interested in serving on a committee, please contact board chair Ryan Hudak.
