IFNSS Week 22 & 23 Updates

Assalamu alaikum respected parents and families,

I pray everyone is doing well and getting ready for the blessed month of Ramadan In sha Allah. In this Newsletter I have included the updates from the past couple of weeks. For those of you who read my Newsletters, I am sorry I did not send one last week as it was busier than usual.

ASSEMBLY on February 26th: Our Morning Assembly on February 26th was led by a special visitor, Minahil Raheel. She was a former student of Sunday School and graduated from Sunday School a few years ago and also was a T.A. at Sunday School. Now she in college ma sha Allah and came to visit us during her Spring Break. She talked to students about the significance of the month of Shaban and how we can raise our ranks by striving to do good deeds and use this month to prepare ourselves for Ramadan.

ASSEMBLY on March 5th: Our Morning Assembly on March 5th was led by some of our Sunday School girls (Fatima, Arwa, Rameen, Zoya, Mariya & Anaya) who are part of Muslim Girl Scouts Troop 47452 led by Sr Leenah Ehsan & Sr Mariam Sheikh. They shared a presentation on the topic of "Global Citizen - Responsible Consumption & Production" and talked about ways of how we can take care of our environment and become a responsible consumer as well as producer.

Our 2023 Annual Surah Memorization Competition was held on last Sunday, March 5th, 2023. We are so proud of the 65+ Sunday School students who participated ma sha Allah. We will announce the results of the Surah Memorization Competition on this coming Sunday, March 12th in sha Allah. However, I want to emphasize that all those who participated are winners ma sha Allah for their efforts and participation. All participating students will receive their awards (certificates OR trophies) at the end of the school year graduation ceremony. We extend our special thanks to our judges: Br Abdul Farrukh, Sr Eman Enaya, Sr Zeinab Moustafa, Sr Ayesha Khaleel, Sr Ibtisam Alostath and Sr Afreen Sheikh who volunteered their time to listen to the surah recitations of all participants and encourage our students Alhumdulillah. May Allah SWT accept and reward all their efforts. Ameen

NOTE: The following information is for the parents of the MEC Qiraat Competition participants, which will be held virtually on March 11th, 2023. We request all parents to make sure their children have started preparing. I pray all students do their best and May Allah SWT grant them success, Ameen.

There are 2 MORE DAYS LEFT IN THE COMPETITION. Please make sure that students are preparing in sha Allah. If you would like for your child to recite their Suran to the Quran teacher before the competition to get feedback, please email us and we can arrange a Zoom meet on Friday In sha Allah.

Event: M.E.C. Sunday School Qirat Competition

Date: Saturday, March 11, 2023

Time: The competition will begin at 9:00 am (Chicago time) on Saturday, March 11, 2023. Please be logged in before 9:00am. The award ceremony will begin at 2:30pm (Chicago time) on Saturday, March 11, 2023.

Location: Online Competition - I have emailed the Zoom links to parents and also posted in the M.E.C Qirat Competition WhatsApp Group

Rules for 1st to 7th grades:

· recite from any Surah or any portion of the Quran

· recitation must be limited to 3 minutes

· recite from memory or from a copy of the Quran

· no extra points for longer Surahs or more difficult rukus

· no extra points for memorization

· Judging Criterion for 1st to 4th grades: Lahn/Fluency

· Judging Criteria for 5th to 7th grades: Makharij and Lahn/Fluency

Rules for 8th to 10th grades:

All 8th, 9th and 10th graders must practice all three rukus given below because you do not know which ruku will be assigned to your grade. On the day of the competition, one of these three rukus will be assigned to the 8th graders, one to the 9th graders and one to the 10th graders:

a. Surah Al-Hadeed (Surah #57) Ayaat 20-25

b. Surah As-Sajdah (Surah #32) Ayaat 16-22

c. Surah Al-Fatir (Surah #35) Ayaat 27-35

Judging Criteria for 8th to 10th grades: Makharij & Sifaat, Laam-ul-Jalaalah, Rules of Ra, Noon Sakin & Tanween, Meem Sakin, Madd, Waqf & Ibtida, Lahn/Fluency
