January 2021
Crawford's Corner
Happy New Year and welcome to the spring semester of the school year. Although this semester did not quite start out the way we wanted it to due to rising COVID cases, we want to thank you all for your continued patience as we juggle a number of school priorities including the safety and health of our students and staff.
As a reminder, if your child test positive for COVID, please call the front office at 512-414-2532. If they have been in close contact and/or will be out for that or other reasons, please email the attendance clerk at crockett@austinisd.org . If your child needs to be out for COVID, please have them access their learning through BLEND.
Despite the continuation of being in a pandemic, our Cougars shined in a variety of way last semester, including our ECHS students gaining a total of 1, 316 collective college hours! Way to go COOGS! We also began showcasing Crockett for our incoming Cougars and our current students will be filling out choice sheets soon. Please see the message below regarding more details surrounding this activity. Please set up an appointment with your child's counselor, If you would like to talk about to them about your child's educational career .
As always, thank you to our entire school community for modeling our Crockett PRIDE Core Values of Pease, Resilience, Integrity, Diversity, and Engagement. With these values at the heart of our interaction with one another we will continue to remain Always Victorious!
With so much peace, love, and light this new year,
Kori Crawford
Proud Principal of Crockett ECHS

We are thrilled to announce that Crockett has NINE Dell Scholarship Semifinalists!
The Dell Scholarship is a $20,000 award to students who demonstrate grit and determination. They must be enrolled in a college readiness program (like AVID, MBK, or College Forward) during 11th & 12th grade and submit an application with several essay prompts. It's a nation-wide scholarship that is incredibly competitive, and NINE of our students were selected to move to the next round. Congratulations to the following seniors-
Prince Pen
Esteban Alvarado
Liette Soviero
Lilly Moore-Drummond
Kaden Dale
Klyrissa Porter
Michael Diaz
Enrrique Garcia
Brandi Dodd
Crockett has a National Hispanic Recognition Award Winner!
Rise Up Youth Program Coming to Crockett ECHS
Be part of something meaningful! Would you like a space where you can be real about what’s going on in your life, how you feel, what struggles you face, and to share your hopes and dreams? Would you like to meet youth from different neighborhoods and backgrounds, learn what their lives are like, have discussions about things that matter (race and gender issues, healthy relationships, etc.), and explore ways to make your community better? If so, Rise Up is for you! We are starting a Spring cohort with the Amala Foundation. Sign up in the front office, fill out the google form, or stop by room 163 if you are interested.
For further information or questions about this program, please contact Maria Arabbo at maria@amalafoundation.org or call her at 617-780-9143'Interested in a shed built by our Crockett Construction Technology Cougars
ConTech will build six 8x8' sheds this semester. They will be ready by the end of the year. If any clubs or individuals would like to purchase one, please let me know. If you let me know in the next couple of weeks, we can design them to be slightly larger and include special doors, windows, insulation, finish, lights, or other specifications. We are putting together our costs, and depending on the specifications, they will start at about $1500. Delivery on campus may be possible, otherwise buyer must provide.
Reach out to our construsction teacher at colin.bugge@austinisd.org for more information.
The naming of the Tennis Courts for Coach Knedlik
In November, we had a ceremony and tennis tournament to honor Coach Knedlik and to name the tennis courts for him. Thank you again to all who helped to make that happen and a big thank you also to all who attended the ceremony and participated in the tournament - we had a great turnout, with lots of Coach K's family, friends, and former players. Right before the break, the sign was officially put up! It warms our heart to know that Coach Knedlik's legacy will be a part of Crockett for years to come!

The band boosters are running two major fundraisers over the course of the next two months.
One is the Class of 2022 yard signs we talked about putting in the chatter and the other is a mulch sale. The goal is to raise over $8000 between the two fundraisers to purchase next year's marching show by March.
Yard sign sales will run Jan 17 - Feb 14 and will be available for pick up at Crockett on Feb 24 & 25th after school.
Mulch sales will also run Jan 17 - Feb 14. The mulch will be delivered in bulk to the Menchaca parking lots on Saturday, March 5th.
THANKS TO THE CROCKETT GRADUATING CLASS OF 1981 FOR YOUR RECENT DONATION TO OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY. WE ARE EXTREMELY GRATEFUL FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO OUR COMMUNITY!
Athletic Event Changes due to Stage 5
Dear Austin ISD Family,
There are new updates to how we manage our athletic programs, including mask requirements and limits on spectators at indoor athletic events, in response to Austin-Travis County moving into Stage 5 of the COVID-19 risk-based guidelines.
Mask requirements: All students, staff, and spectators will be required to wear masks at indoor athletic events unless they’re participating in vigorous activity.
- Student-athletes will be masked at all times except when they’re playing the sport. That means masks are required in the locker room, in meetings, or on the sidelines.
- The masking requirement applies to all visiting teams and spectators.
Capacity limits: Two people per player will be allowed into all indoor activities and are required to wear masks.
Health screenings: Student-athletes will be verbally screened daily to confirm everyone at the practice or game feels 100%.
- Student-athletes are expected to self-screen and self-report if they’re experiencing any symptoms, including congestion, runny nose, sneezing, or cough.
- Anyone who has symptoms should not be attending any type of school activity.
We will continue reviewing our protocols to be sure we’re maintaining a safe environment for our student-athletes, staff and community.
Respectfully,
Leal Anderson
Athletic Director
