Welcome to our CTS Snapshot - a weekly celebration update. We are delighted to share with parents and carers alike student triumphs at Corby Technical School. We are proud of every student and every success they have - please feel free to share with us any achievements they might have.

Mr Toye has made the following nominations:
Jess (7ST) has shown how incredibly creative she is; when considering heroes and villains, her ideas around character construction have been incredibly entertaining to read!
Ross (7ST) has displayed ambition to achieve in every lesson; he comes into our learning space open to new information and desperate to explore every learning opportunity.
Nojus (7CA) no matter how tricky learning gets, or how many key terms we attempt to master, Nojus applies himself to all tasks and always strives for excellence.
Cameron (8CA) shows sheer determination; no matter how difficult the task is, he will show resilience and apply himself to achieve the best he can.
Jess (8ST) has shown mature considerations into very sensitive subjects; she has shared ideas maturely and appropriately, whilst trying to apply citizenship skills to the key text:
Mr Kernaghan has nominated the following students for their hard work :
Year 7 students Myles, Joel and Marika, Year 8 student Melande, Year 10 students Thomas, Ugne and Leyton, Year 11 students Arina, Ollie, Stas and Thomas L and Sixth Form students Kai, Finley W, Jack and Jakub.
Miss Magnay has nominated 10CY for their excellent work ethic building up towards an assessment on An Inspector Calls. Throughout this term they have shown brilliant engagement with the play and it is so lovely to see this hard work showing in their essays. A special mention to Amelie, Lottie and Sian who have been completing additional analytical essays outside of the classroom in order to help them prepare.
10AZ have worked brilliantly on their GCSE Language skills this term. We have been looking at a creative writing task where they have demonstrated a wide range of ambitious punctuation and some fantastic vocabulary. A special mention to K-Jay, Kasper and Declan who have consistently shown high levels of effort and are quick to work on feedback.
Mrs Hegarty has nominated the following students for their hard work:
Year 11 student Aadi, Year 10 student Sarah, Year 9 students CJ and Jack G, Year 8 students Ethan and Kellen and finally Year 7 student Karmine.
Mrs Collins would like to congratulate Year 9 students Josh, Sophie B and Nicola for fantastic commitment to English. They are all exceptionally hard-working students and produce outstanding work every lesson. They are kind, helpful and a pleasure to teach.
Miss Vye has nominated Year 7 students Brianna, Max B, Svetlana and Olivia and Year 10 students Adam B, Lubo, Beatrice, Oliwia, Georgia, Aleksandra, Alicja and Milly for outstanding work and contributions.
Miss Hogan has nominated 10BLY and 10CLZ for their efforts in their first English literature assessment for An Inspector Calls. All students demonstrated fantastic effort and knowledge of text.
Curriculum Focus:
Year 10 Combined and Triple Science:
This term in combined science students are studying how plants create glucose using photosynthesis and how they can get the reactants and what they do with the products. They are also looking at radioactivity, the different types of radiation and how we can keep ourselves safe from radiation.
In triple sciences students are looking at health and disease in biology, what makes us unwell and different treatments we can use to keep ourselves well. As well as forces in physics, including stopping distances and crash hazards. Finally in chemistry they are studying how the earths atmosphere has changed over time and looking at organic chemistry including fuels and hydrocarbons.

3. What are 2 disadvantages of using fossil fuels
Year 11 Combined and Triple Science:
This term in combined science students are studying magnets and electromagnets, including how we can use magnets in real life situations and acids and alkalis, they have also made copper sulphate salt in a core practical.
In triple sciences students are looking at hormones and homeostasis in biology, learning how the body keeps internal conditions constant and how hormones control changes in our bodies. As well as magnets in physics, including electromagnets and their real world applications. Finally in chemistry they are studying acids and alkalis and electrolysis including life cycles of products.

What is the range of the pH scale?
Give 3 uses of electromagnets
What is it important that the body maintains a constant internal environment?
Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award:
Sixth Form students have recently undertaken the expedition section for their Gold Duke of Edinburgh and were required to present the aim of the expedition and what they have achieved over the course of the expedition.
Both groups created and presented detailed and reflective presentations and both presented well to the audience of the DofE, and senior staff. We are all incredibly proud of the students. This sees the completion of their expedition section and the first Corby Technical School students to have achieved this.
Year 11 Maths Rewards Assembly:
We have held assemblies to celebrate the achievements of Year 11 students in Maths lessons this year, including the highest attainers and special awards for those who have worked consistently hard and shown commitment to their studies, we also shared with students the additional support and interventions available as they head towards their GCSE examinations.
