Singing and Guitar Lessons - THIS WEEK
Singing and Guitar lessons will be held on Tuesday only this week due to the mini-fete. All students need to bring their guitars and meet Cathy at the band room at lunch time on Tuesday, as both the Junior and Senior groups are preparing for a performance at our end of year concert.
End of Year Activities
As the days are quickly flying by, we have begun to plan our end of year events. There will be many things happening at school, particularly in the last couple of weeks of term. Please include the following dates in your diary so that you don't miss out on any of them:
* Year 7 Orientation Day - Tuesday 6th December: Year 6 students attending public schools in 2017 should have received some information regarding this day from their enrolled high school
* Year 6 Day Out & Farewell - Wednesday 7th December: Year 6 will head to 'Attractivitiy' for some fun activities before returning to school later in the day for some more events. Please refer to previous notes sent home by Mr Murphy
* Presentation Day and Volunteer Morning Tea - The Presentation Day assembly will start at 9.15am in the hall on Friday 9th December. The school has sent a letter in the mail to parents whose children will be receiving an award on the day. The Hippopotamus Choir will be performing during the assembly and the Year 6 Graduation Ceremony will follow at the end. After the Presentation Day assembly, the school will be holding a thank you morning tea in the library for all our helpers and volunteers. Please come along if you have assisted the school in any way this year. This includes programs and events such as reading helpers, school banking , preparation for dance performances, Mother's Day and Father's Day stalls, Spartan event , assisting at sport, etc.
* End of Year Concert - Our annual School concert will be held on Tuesday 13th December and will be split into two time slots to allow more room for the audience to be seated in the school hall. There will be a Kindergarten - Year 2 Concert at Midday. All classes in K-2 will be performing, as well as our Support Unit, and Junior and Senior dance groups. There will be a recess break between 1 and 1.20pm so that all these students and their parents who do not have older children may leave the hall area. The next concert will begin at around 1.20pm. All students in Years 3-6, as well as the Guitar groups (Junior, including the Year 2 guitar students, and Senior) and both dance groups will perform in the second concert. At the end of the concert the P&C will be drawing their Christmas raffle winners.
* End of Year Activity Day - Thursday 15th December: all students will participate in a range of fun activities. A note with further information about each activity will be sent home soon.
* Talent Quest and Last day of 2016 - Some students will perform an item for the school to showcase their talents. This will also be the last day of school for all students in 2016.
Donations request for Christmas Raffle
The P&C will be holding their annual raffle again this year. They are asking for donations for the raffle prizes. Please drop all donations into the office as soon as possible. Students will receive a booklet of raffle tickets today to sell to their family and friends . Raffles will be drawn at the End Of Year Concert on Tuesday 13th December.
World Festival of Magic - Free Tickets
The Lions Club of Bondi has kindly given our school some tickets for the World Festival of Magic to be held at the Hordern Pavilion, Moore Park on Monday 19th December (11am, 1:30pm or 4pm). The tickets are for entry to a 90 minute show that is guaranteed to amuse and astound the whole family. If you would like tickets for your family, please see the school office. Please note that tickets will be given to the first families who request them. Tickets will be limited to immediate family members only.
Cards & Calendars - NOW DUE!!
The annual 'Cards & Calendars' fundraiser is being held again this year. Each child in the school has created an artwork that can be turned into calendars, cards, diaries, mouse pads or sketch pads - $15 each. These make the perfect Christmas present for friends and family. Order form and money must be returned to the school office by THIS AFTERNOON @ 3pm. If paying by cheque, please make cheques payable to Banksmeadow PS P&C. Spare order forms can be collected from the office.
Student Banking Volunteers
Many of our students use the Commonwealth Bank's School Banking to bank each week. This program is supported by parent/grandparent volunteers who come to the school on a Thursday every couple of weeks to count and then bank the money. Unfortunately, we only have three volunteers at the moment. If you are available to help out, even for just one Thursday a term, please contact Sarah on bpspandc@hotmail.com, or see Ms Hoskins.
New Jerseys
At a P&C meeting earlier this year, there was discussion about the need for new AFL and soccer jerseys. Two of our families kindly donated toward the purchase of these jerseys. Thank you to the Morris family (Event Vehicles Australia - EVA) and the Cullen family(Buzzard Cleaning) for your generosity. The jerseys look fabulous and the kids can't wait to begin wearing them next year.
End of Year Library News - REPEAT
The year is coming to a close and it is time for me to close off borrowing so that I can make sure all borrowed books have ben returned. I am asking for your assistance with this by helping your child to remember to return their library book this week.

Environmental Education Day - Banksia Scrub - REPEAT
Along the Brighton St and Stephen Rd corner of the school, we have an area of land that is home to the protected Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub. Today, less than 3% of the original distribution of this community remains in a number of isolated remnants. Each month we have a company who specialises in bush regeneration, who visit the site to perform maintenance and remediation works.
This area of land is a special one, and we would like to educate our students and our community about why it is so special, and what we can do to continue to protect it.
We will be holding an environmental education day on Tuesday 29th October. On this day, there will be activities for all students to participate in, including taking part in some bush regeneration work, as well as learning about the history of the Banksia Scrub and the land. We will also have some visitors from the Botany Bay Education Centre and Featherdale Wildlife Park. Parents and members of our community are also invited to attend and participate in the day. Please pass the below invitation on to anyone in the community whom you feel may like to attend.
2017 Enrolments - REPEAT
We are beginning to plan for 2017 classes. If your child will not be returning to Banksmeadow next year, or if you are aware of any families who will be moving into the area and hoping to enrol, could you please let Ms Hoskins know as soon as possible so as to assist with planning.
