For the Week of February 14 - 18
Estimados Padres,
Gracias,
Mrs. O’Hair
Directora de la Escuela Elemental de Shady Grove

Classroom parties are a special occasion planned for each class of students. Parents are welcome to attend, but please be respectful of the class's party time together by not checking their school-aged siblings out of class to attend other classes' parties.
Don't forget to check out the lost-and-found!
Parents planning to attend the Valentine's parties, please plan to swing by the lost-and-found racks to claim your student's lost jacket!
Parents, please write your child's name inside of jackets that are sent to school!
Announcing the 2021-2022 Shady Grove Elementary Teacher of the Year...
The Teacher of the Year is nominated and voted upon by peers. Here are some of the things the faculty and staff had to say about Ms. Lastly:
"I chose Ms. Lastly because of the passion and dedication she puts in her teaching and into each individual student. She shows them how to be kind and respectful and to take pride in their learning. Ms. Lastly strives to make all her students feel important and loved. These qualities reflect in how her students are mindful of others and how much they take in and learn. She instills qualities that will not only excel her students in school, but as they go forward in the real world."
"Ms. Lastly is always looking for ways to keep her students engaged. She makes sure that they do not ever give up and she is always encouraging them to do more. Her expectations are high and her students rise to meet them. She exemplifies what it means to be an amazing teacher!"
"Shelby's passion is teaching! One can see this through the enthusiasm she shares with her students as well as her colleagues. She is constantly finding creative ways to make learning fun for all students in kindergarten. She is definitely a role model to all of us!"
Shady Grove Gem of Appreciation!
This month, Shady Grove's Gem of Appreciation is Amalia Koschtial! At mid-year, she took on a new position as the dyslexia teacher at SGE. Not only did she welcome the opportunity to learn a new position, but she has done a beautiful job of keeping the dyslexia program running smoothly for our students. She has taken on this challenge with positivity and is all in! We are grateful for you, Mrs. Koschtial!

Ongoing Reminders and Quick Links
COVID-19
As a reminder, the 10-day COVID isolation rule for students has not changed. The current guidance from the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) is for COVID-positive students to isolate until at least 10 days have passed since symptom onset or testing positive, be fever-free, and other symptoms have improved. Fever-free means for 24 hours without the use of fever suppressing medications (Fever is a temperature of 100° Fahrenheit or higher).
For students who are quarantining due to a household close contact, students must remain at home 10 days past the last day of exposure to the infected person. The 10 day rule for close contacts does not apply if: the student was vaccinated, the student has had COVID in the last 90 days, or the student receives a negative PCR after discontinuing exposure to the infected person.
You may review the District's COVID protocols, access the BCISD Self-Reporting form, and view the BCISD COVID-19 Case Dashboard by clicking the button below.
Birthdays!
Is your child celebrating a birthday? Feel free to send individually wrapped birthday treats for your child's class. The teacher will serve them at an appropriate time according to each class's end-of-day schedule.
Please keep in mind the "individually wrapped" condition when planning the treat to send with your student. Individually wrapped treats minimize exposure to extra handling.
Car Line Reminders
It's also a great time to review drop-off / pick-up procedures:
-When dropping students off in the car line, please ensure your child is on the sidewalk before pulling forward.
-Are you parking on Harvey St. by the grove of trees to drop-off in the morning? If so, please walk your child to a staff member in the front of the building rather than sending him/her to walk alone. Please also avoid blocking residential driveways and bus traffic.
-All students should enter the building at the front entry. The only students entering from the back of the building should be bus riders.
-No in-person pick-up after 3:00pm until the car line is finished. As we work to dismiss our students in a timely and orderly fashion, we must keep the front entry/exit doors uncrowded. As a result, parents needing to check their students out must do so before 3:00pm or after the car line is finished.
Other general reminders:
-Help us keep the line moving as quickly and safely as possible by staying in your car, seating your student on the right side of the vehicle, and giving goodbye hugs and kisses before the drop-off line!
HOW DO I REQUEST A CHANGE IN TRANSPORTATION?
How do I request a change in transportation?
- Submit an email on the same day as the transportation change request by 1:30pm to: sge-transportation@burnetcisd.net
- Include the following details in the email:
-student's full name
-student's grade level
-student's homeroom teacher
-the transportation change you want made for today (bus to car, car to bus, etc)
In order to ensure a smooth dismissal process for all students, requests made after 1:30pm will not be processed. Notes, phone calls, text messages and emails sent to any other email will not be processed.
Visitors are welcome for lunch!
We are happy to announce that because of the continued decline in COVID case numbers, parents are once again permitted to visit Burnet CISD elementary campuses for lunch. Visitors will continue to be restricted during breakfast time so that the instructional day can begin without any delays.
Please read the following important information carefully prior to visiting during lunch beginning December 1st:
Visitor seating is limited, and we request parents limit their lunch visits to no more than one time a week.
Because of supply chain issues in the food service industry, any visitors for lunch must bring their own food to ensure that we can reliably feed all students.
Only those individuals listed as an emergency contact for a child are permitted to visit for lunch.
A separate table will be designated for lunch visitors and their student. Friends of the child being visited are not permitted to join. Outside food may not be shared with friends of the student.
Lunch visitors are permitted in the cafeteria.
Please be respectful of the student’s instructional schedule. The student should return to the classroom with his/her classmates when the lunch time ends.
As stated in the BCISD Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services plan, the District DOES expect each individual to screen himself/herself prior to arriving on BCISD property. An individual with symptoms of a contagious illness should remain home.
