Dear CSD Families and Staff,

As the final days of the 21-22 school year approach, there are many reasons across our district to celebrate:

• Watching our 2022 CHS graduates begin the next phase of their academic and professional careers
• Seeing our 5th and 8th grade students' excitement as they promote to a new building
• Celebrating the culmination of this year's academic and extracurricular pursuits
• Honoring the efforts and partnership of our students, staff, families, and the Creswell community that make each of these possible.

As our students move to new stages at the end of the school year, so too do some of our staff. Please join me in sharing good wishes and thanking our CSD employees who are retiring for their service to our students and community.

While the 21-22 academic year is coming to an end, learning and education never ceases. Our schools are looking forward to welcoming students for summer enrichment opportunities and will be eager to resume classes again in the fall. Over the summer, we will be preparing and improving our schools, including important seismic upgrades at Creslane Elementary School which will enhance the safety of our students and staff.

Thank you to our wonderful colleagues for the incredible impact you have had for our students and to our CSD families for your support and partnership that helped make '21-'22 a successful instructional year. Working together, we were able to offer in-person instruction every day this year - an enormous achievement - and provide the resources and support students need to be successful. It takes a great deal of teamwork to do what we do -- thank you for being an important member of CSD's "One Team, One Dream"!

Following are some key end-of-year dates and details you may find handy. As a reminder, during the final week of classes, Wednesday, June 15th is NOT an early release day. Instead, students have a full day schedule on Wednesday and will be released early on Thursday, June 16th, the last day of class.

• Friday, June 10th - CHS Graduation
• Tuesday, June 14th - CMS 8th Grade Promotion / Last day for 8th graders
• Wednesday, June 15th - CES 5th Grade Promotion / NOT AN EARLY RELEASE DAY - Full day schedule for students
• Thursday, June 16th - Last day of school / EARLY RELEASE DAY

Way to go, Bulldogs! The CHS Jazz Band won 2nd place at the OMEA State Championships recently held at Mt. Hood Community College. Videos of their performances can be found on the Creswell Schools Music Program Facebook page.

Creslane Elementary students and staff are joining together to participate in The Crayon Initiative and share the joy of art with kids in hospitals. Through their work, The Crayon Initiative turns used crayons into new crayons, distributing them to over 240 children's hospitals across the United States and helping to keep materials out of landfills.

Now through June 13th, Creslane is collecting used crayons and holding a coin drive to help pay shipping costs to deliver the used crayons. Any additional money collected will be donated to The Crayon Initiative. If you'd like to participate, donations of crayons or coins can be dropped off at the Creslane school office at 996 West A Street.

Thursday, June 16th is the final day for families to sign their student up for KITS - Kids in Transition to School. KITS is a FREE kindergarten summer program at Creslane, offering opportunities for students to get comfortable with their school, gain school readiness skills, and meet new friends. Creswell High School's personal finance course is a practical class that presents information to prepare students for their financial futures, helping them to make better informed decisions as consumers and gain skills needed to make wise economic choices.

Guest speaker Craig Leonard recently answered questions and shared with students information about saving and investing for retirement, explaining and providing examples of the power of compounding.

Personal finance is a graduation requirement at CHS, ensuring that every Bulldog gains a basic understanding about budgeting, saving, investing, credit management, taxes, career development, and more.

We'd like to take a moment to acknowledge and thank our '21-'22 CSD retirees for their years of service to Creswell School District and our students. Whether keeping our buses safely on the road, instructing our students with care and attention, protecting the health of our learning community, or serving as a welcoming presence in our school office, each of these employees has made an important difference for our team. When you have an opportunity, please thank them for their commitment and dedication and wish them well as they begin an exciting new chapter!

On May 21st, volunteers from Hope Restored Creswell made transformational improvements in the Creslane Elementary School garden and the community bark trails at Creswell High School. Our teachers and students are enjoying using the garden as a learning space and we love seeing the community gather in these areas.

One of the highlights of the year for Creslane's 4th graders and their families is the "Live Wax Museum" project. Students choose a historical figure to research, prepare an informational speech, and dress as their chosen character for the wax museum. Students had the opportunity to practice critical writing and public speaking skills while families and friends alike enjoyed watching the students' work and creativity come to life. Well done, Mustangs!
