Subject Highlights:
Mrs Clark has made the following Art nominations this week:
Year 12 students Ana, Jonathon, Yunus , Kacper, Isabella, Ksenija, Paulina and Gabby foror their effort and dedication at starting their portfolio.
Year 11 students Shanli, Penny, Hollie and Ana who work hard every lesson.
Year 10 students Wictoria, Georgia K, Kinga K , Sian, Layla and Ellie-Leigh for hard work and dedication to Art and Year 9 students Filip C, Alex B, Katie W, Aurelia W, Sonia S, Natasha H, Ella B Lily B for starting Year 9 really well.
In Food Tech this week Year 10 students have made some excellent meatballs with Yorkshire pudding – displaying safe handling of raw meat, shaping and binding the meatballs and successfully creating risen Yorkshire puddings.
Year 9 prepared chicken stir fry’s - again displaying excellent safe working with raw meat.
Year 8 have made baked risotto’s and Year 7 have made delicious carrot cakes. The carrot cakes have been on display and offered for tasting at our open evening.
Many of the recipes are now available to photograph from a board outside the food room.
This week Mrs Firmin has been most impressed with Year 11 food students who have been working hard on their coursework: Esosa, Angela, Julia, Rene, Scarlett, Brooke, Bianca, Ella, Leonie and Blessing. Great work!
Mr Mason-Saunders has made the following nominations for DT:
Year 7 student Ava C for always looking for ways to improve her work, seeking perfection.
Year 8 student Mia for always showing her passion for the subject and demonstrating her knowledge by supporting others to achieve.
9CO are working hard together to support all students in achieving in new skills.
Finally, Jennifer H i Year 10 who continually shows her passion for the subject taking on additional tasks demonstrating her natural talents in the subject.

Year 8 student Aston C for his positive attitude to learning, Gabriel and Julia (Year 9) for their excellent wood working skills when making the comb joint for their automata project.
Year 10 Engineering - Well done to Billie Y and Szymon K for making an excellent start to the year in Engineering, Finally Year 11 Engineering students Kacper and Gretil for their hard work on developing their solid works CAD skill.
Curriculum Focus:
Year 7 - Geography Road Trip:
This topic deal directly with giving students a thorough understanding of human, physical and environmental geography. We want to develop students understanding of these key strands but also establishing the links that they share. In this topic students look at the UK, getting to know the country they live by exploring maps and examining patterns between the physical geography like rainfall and relief and population distribution. This topic introduces the concept of processes and how things change over time as well as development and how the UK compares to other areas of the world.

Visting Britain - What is the difference between the British Isles, United Kingdom and Great Britain?
Visiting Brazil - how did circumstances changed Sandro’s life?
Revision & End of Topic Assessment – Mode to Assessment – mix of multiple choice and extended answer based on Geography Road Trip Topic

Year 8 - Development:
This term, Year 8 will study Development, this links to work they did in year 7 while studying Settlement and Urbanisation and will link to Hazards and Globalisation topics in the future. Students look at how we measure development, what causes the development gap and ways in which we are trying to reduce this gap around the world.

Year 9 - Globalisation:
This term, year 9 students have been exploring globalisation. Looking into what globalisation is, the UK position in the rest of the world and the role TNCs in globalisation. We then go on to look at real life examples of case studies. These include looking into Nike from the growth of the corporation to some of the ‘injustices’ that comes from TNC operations around the world. Students develop the empathy and understanding of the impacts of globalisation as well as identifying the benefits to themselves of it.

Revision – Structured whole class revision of Globalisation topic.
End of Topic Assessment – Mode 2 Assessment – Mixture of short and longer answer questions based on Globalisation.
