COVID-19 Protocols
COVID Reminder 2023-2024
As we enter another school year, we’re excited to get back together as a school community. Unfortunately, COVID and other respiratory cases are on rise, with new strains that are not necessarily showing up on home testing kits. We have already had several cases of COVID in our school community during these opening days. See the following CDC guidance for COVID exposure and isolation.
COVID Guideline Recommendations
The CDC recommends staff and students stay up to date on vaccinations
Monitor your health and stay home when symptomatic
Positive Case Procedure - CDC Isolation and Precautions
Notify the School Nurse that you’ve tested positive
Isolate at home for at least 5 days, Day 0 of isolation is the day of symptom onset, regardless of when you tested positive (Please consult with your schools nurse to determine appropriate isolation protocols)
Return to work when…
You are fever free for 24-hours without medicine
Symptoms have substantially improved
Wear a well-fitted mask for days 6-10, when you return after Day 5. This is while indoors, in public spaces or around vulnerable individuals
Exposure - Recommendations
Take precautions: wear a high-quality mask any time you are around others indoors or in public spaces
Contact the School Nurse if you’ve been exposed
Test on day 6 after exposure, even if asymptomatic
Immediately isolate and test, if you become symptomatic
Do not go places where you are unable to wear a mask.
Take extra precautions around people who are more vulnerable
You can still develop COVID-19 up to 10 days after you have been exposed
Masking
Masking is optional at AOS#91 schools except following COVID positive status
Masking is encouraged when…
Following exposure to someone who tested positive for COVID
Individuals who have tested positive for COVID are required to wear a mask for Days 6-10, if they return after Day 5
In consultation, universal indoor masking or targeted indoor masking (e.g., class, grade, or office) may be required when there is a cluster of COVID-19 cases, an outbreak, or high absenteeism. The state identifies an outbreak when 15% of staff and students are absent.
Please refer to the CDC website for the current guidelines for illness and exposure to COVID if you have further questions. What to Do If You Were Exposed to COVID-19 | CDC
Thank you for your help with this. If you have school specific questions please contact your School Nurse. Together we can keep our schools healthy and present.
Next Friday Community Afternoon - December 15th
ALL are welcome! Please RSVP to Lelania at lelania.avila@mdirss.org to let her know you'll be there!
