A Message From Mrs. O'Shaughnessy
Having everyone back in the building is wonderful. Watching them interact, take part in discussions, create and form bonds is what it is all about. We are listening to what our students want, what they need, and putting it into place. Student voice is the cornerstone of our work this year. Not just student government, but all students are sharing what they think, what they would like and are our every day problem solvers.
Our students have completed the MAP diagnostic as well as IReady. It is important to know that these diagnostics are not "tests" but an indicator of where are students are, where they made progress, and where they need support. The results of these diagnostics help us know how to differentiate instruction, and close the gaps of understanding. Over the next few weeks, leading up to parent-teacher conferences, the results of these diagnostics will be shared with you, the students will goal set for themselves, and the teachers and paraprofessionals will work to reach every student.
February is Black History Month, and we are celebrating in many ways. Each morning at daily announcements, our student government will share quotes and stories of black history that move us. Students are encouraged to guess who the quote is from, and discuss at breakfast. Our hallways are filled with images and stories to honor Black History Month.
As we gear up for February break, the DOE is preparing for our return. This week you will receive guidance on at-home covid tests. All students and staff will take a testing kit home for the break, so that we can be proactive about any possible outbreaks. Stay tuned, as an update will be sent this week. I have added a link in this newsletter that is live and will always have all of the Chancellors updates.
Have a wonderful week!

Vegan Fridays
Vegan Fridays
I am excited to announce Vegan Fridays, beginning tomorrow, February 4.
Building on the great success of Meatless Mondays, introduced in 2019, and Meatless Fridays, introduced in April 2021, Vegan Fridays will feature a vegan dish as the primary menu item. These menu items are plant based and made from scratch. Our team of chefs prepared these recipes utilizing high quality ingredients to ensure they would be tasty and satisfying. They meet all of the USDA child nutrition standards. Please note:
- Vegan options are already offered in all schools on a daily basis, and milk is available as an option with every meal.
- Further, additional options are always available, including peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and hummus and pretzels, and students will continue to have non-vegan options available to them on Fridays.
