MES Weekly Scoop
It's a great day to be a Bulldog! Bulldogs Don't Quit!
I have a sign in my office that reads "teachers who love teaching, teach children to love learning". As I reflect on this statement, I think of a couple of things. I think about why a teacher loves teaching, and what is being taught.
A teacher loves teaching because they love children and helping them learn. Satisfaction for a teacher's job comes from helping students succeed. Teachers feel successful when they help students realize their potential. Teachers experience joy when they see a student learn something new, or the student's efforts pays off.
When I would introduce myself as a teacher, people would often ask what do you teach. I would often answer back with "children". They would usually smile, and follow up with " no, I meant what subject". I tried to let people know that a subject doesn't matter. What matters is the student, and our role as teachers is to help students love learning, regardless of the subject.

These 3 classes were the top go getters and brought in the most items. Thank yous to MES PTO for all your hard work with this project, Landoll Lanes for the bowling, and all the students that worked on the clothes drive.
Getting in the Spirit
Mrs. Olmsted and Mr. Brown took the 2nd graders to sing for some of our local senior residents. They performed three songs: Snow, Rock 'n' Roll Snowman, Red Bird, Winter Fun
They had a great time and I am sure the Seniors loved it.

Missing a few days here and there doesn't seem like a big deal, but as you can see, a few school absences add up to a lot of missed instruction! Regular attendance is vital for student success. Research shows that students with chronic absenteeism are less likely to read proficiently by third grade, achieve in middle school, or graduate from high school.
Zero Stopped by the Kindergarten this week to celebrate the 80th day of school. WOW!!!! They counted candy canes to 80, and then they all were given one.

LOST AND FOUND
We need your help. We have a large amount of coats, jackets, and hoodies being left all over the building. Mostly in the gym, cafeteria, and playground. The vast majority have no name written in them. When they are put in the lost and found, they are never claimed. Lost and found is located in the breeze way at the main entrance.
Please tell your child the importance of keeping their clothing items. Be sure to write their name in their coats. Check to see if your child has their coat. All these items will be taken to Habitat at the end of the semester or sooner when we can't store that many items.
