Ready for School
The peaches are ripe, the sun is setting sooner, and kids are getting ready for school (which begins on September 5.) Flint's Montessori program is getting ready too.
We have grown- last year we had a very successful pilot class of 13 kids in the K-1 class. This year, we have 50 kids in two classrooms that span grades K-2 and have started a waiting list. We are also gearing up for a new Montessori pre-K class that will serve 16 more kids.
We have added two Montessori teachers for this year who will join Ms. Michele as part of our growing Montessori family. They have all been training this summer at the Michigan Montessori Teacher Education Center.

Ms. Starletta
Ms. Starletta is the pre-K Montessori teacher. Here she is, demonstrating the teen board.
Ms. Amanda
Ms. Amanda is one of the elementary Montessori teachers. Here, she is preparing a language lesson.
Ms. Michele and our Awardees
Ms. Michele received the lifetime achievement award at the annual FCS awards night. Mr. Stith, Durant Tuuri Mott's technology instructor and Ms. McQueen, who served as the Montessori program's contact with FCS administration, were also honored.
Summer Harvest Fun
This time of year is perfect for enjoying the bounty of local fruits and vegetables, and kids can be part of the fun.
U-Pick Farms
Visiting a local u-pick farm to harvest your own peaches or blueberries. It's a great family activity and presents a chance to talk about how plants grow.
Flint Farmers' Market
The Flint Farmers' Market has so many fresh fruits and veggies to choose from. Bring along your kids and let them help choose what to get. Is there something you have never tried? if you are adventurous in your eating, chances are your kids will be too.
Helping to Cook
Involve the kids in preparing the food. Younger ones can help sorting and washing the food, and older ones can help cut and cook it (with supervision, of course). Making recipes together is a great way to practice measuring ingredients and adding them together.
