What an amazing time! We made it through the first week of the 2022-2023 school year - and we accomplished this together! Our faculty and staff worked diligently to make this a special week for our scholars. Congratulations, we have already earned a day off - Monday, September 7, is Labor Day and MacArthur will be closed.

Please spend this time with family and friends to relax this weekend. Next week, scholars will begin diving into their ELA, Math, Writing, Social Studies, and Science units. Many scholars, parents, and teachers have been showing grit and we are excited for another week.

2022-23 School Year District Calendar

On Thursday, September 1st, the PTA rolled out the red carpet for our students and had paparazzi/fans help take pictures and make the students feel like the rock stars we all know they are. Thank you to all involved!

Drop off/Pick Up:

• At arrival, if you are driving to drop off or pick up your child, please be mindful of the planned traffic pattern by following the route on the map below. For students not eating breakfast, the doors will open promptly at 8:50AM.
• Scholars who are walking to school should enter the same door as children getting dropped off in vehicles (Door 12 by 4K).
• Based on discussions with the Germantown Police department, traffic cannot block intersections while waiting for students to be dropped off or picked up. When traffic is backed up to the intersection of Fond du Lac Ave and Pilgrim, please consider turning around at the dead end of Fond du Lac Ave (at the bottom of the map below) and stage on the north side of the street before entering the parking lot. If this is not feasible, consider taking a loop around the block or leaving for pickup/drop off a couple minutes later.
• Please remember families may enter the lot by taking a right or a left into the lot. We ask families to assume the best, show kindness and understanding as we all work to welcome and dismiss students.
• If your child is buying breakfast, the front doors (main entrance) will open promptly at 8:40AM

• At dismissal, the doors at MacArthur will open promptly at 4:06PM and all families should have a sign with their child's first and last name, and grade level.
• The traffic pattern for cars remains the same as the arrival pattern.
• Scholars who walk home will be released through the 2nd grade doors near the playground (DOOR #11).
• Guardians who park and walk up should form a line on the corner outside of the pick up area. Please have a sign with their child's first and last name, and grade level.

BUSES:

• As we work to ensure safety of all students, our buses have been delayed. We apologize for any inconvenience. We will email families through Skyward when this happens but please be prepared for your scholar at any time even when an email comes through.

Changes in your student's day:

• If your student is going to be absent, please notify the homeroom teacher via Eagle Note prior to a planned absence or call the office before 8am.
• For changes in dismissal, please notify your student's homeroom teacher directly AND call the office.

Online Verification:

• If you haven't done so already, please complete the Online Verification of your child's record we have on Skyward. It is key to make sure we have all the updated and accurate information.

School Fees:

• Registration fees may be paid in the office using cash/check (made out to Germantown School District). Fees are $65 for 5th graders, $55 for 5K-4th graders, and $35 for 4K students.
• You can also pay online, through Skyward (Fee Management on the left hand side).

Lunch:

• You can pay fees for Food Service accounts in the office using cash/check (made out to GSD Food Service) or though Skyward (Food Service on the left hand side).
• Breakfast and Lunch are NOT free for the 2022-23 school year. To fill out a fee waiver, please go to your Skyward account to find the online Fee Waiver form.
• If your child plans to purchase breakfast (available from 8:40am-9:06am), hot lunch, or milk, you must have money in your family Food Service Account.
• If your child will be late to school and would like hot lunch or milk, please call the office by 9:30am and let us know.

MacArthur Families-

Hello! We can’t believe it’s that time again, but welcome back to school! And welcome to all the new families that are just starting out at MacArthur! We can’t wait to see everyone and meet all the new families. We are excited for another awesome year for all of our scholars and families. We know it’s going to be a fantastic 2022/23 school year.

We encourage and welcome all families to participate in growing the school community. A great way to do that is to join us at PTA meetings. They are generally held the second Thursday of each month in the MacArthur library. At the meetings you can catch up on all the happenings at school and get to know fellow parents. We offer free babysitting and follow up our meetings with a social hour. The first meeting of the year is Thursday, September 8 at 7 pm. We will be going over last year's projects, volunteer spots opening up and funding projects for this year. We hope to see you there!

As always we will kick off the new year with the annual Kick N Pizza Party. This will be held on Friday, September 9th from 5:30-8 pm on the school playground. This is a wonderful opportunity to start meeting parents and for the scholars to spend time with their fellow classmates. A pizza dinner is followed by a fun family kickball game.

We are extremely excited about our inaugural golf outing coming up on September 25. We welcome you to join us (sign up here) with a foursome or if you are interested in sponsorship please let us know. We hope to raise funds for more technology enhancements and to fund school field trips and author/artist visits.

Last year we held our first Annual Fall Fest in October. All scholars and parents had a great time with the trunk or treat, inflatables and games. Watch for this fun event to come back even bigger and better on Friday, October 7th. This year will also feature a chili-cook-off so if you would like to enter your chili in the competition, please sign up here.

Our book fairs were extremely successful last year and led to thousands of dollars in new books going back to all of the classrooms and will provide Scholastic News to all classrooms this year again for more learning opportunities. Our annual fall book fair will be back in November!

MacArthur PTA had a very successful and productive 2021/22 school year. We raised enough money last year to provide new smart TVs for all of the 3rd grade classrooms. We were also able to purchase and replace all 6 of the backboards in the gym and repaint the entire gym. Not only that but the brand new rock wall was purchased and installed in the gym! We can’t wait to see what we are able to accomplish this year!

Lastly, the spirit wear website is now open to take orders.

The site will close at the end of day September 18th.

Orders will arrive mid-October and they will be delivered to the school.
