A Peek At Our Week

Take a look at all of the fun we had this week!

Fun Run

WOW!!! What an awesome Fun Run today! A huge thank you to the Mr. Tylk, the specials teachers, volunteers, Mrs. Hart, and the PTA for organizing and supporting such a wonderful event. The students ran their little hearts out! The had potato sack races, hurdles, sprints, and running through a stream of bubbles! Thank you for all of the donations towards our laminator at Evergreen!!!!! It is so very appreciated!!!!!!

Safety Drills

Each year, in accordance with guidelines from the Regional Office of Education, each school is required to conduct emergency drills in order to help staff and students prepare for an emergency event. These drills include Fire Safety Drills, Tornado Drills, and Intruder (Active Shooter) Drills. Typically the Intruder Drills and Fire Safety Drills will include the presence of either fire department or police department at the buildings during these drills.


On Wednesday,October 25th, and Wednesday, November 1st, Evergreen Elementary School will be conducting two practice Intruder (Active Shooter ALICE) Drills. On November 1st our Carol Stream police department will be part of our practice drill. Students and staff will be prepared for the drill and all students will be reassured that there is nothing to fear and that the drill is intended to help them know what to do in the event that there was an actual emergency. Please reassure and reinforce with your child(ren) that they are not in danger and that this is how we practice safety in school.

Veteran's Day


We will be having our annual Veteran's Day assembly on Friday, November 10th, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. If you have a Veteran in your family or circle of friends that you would like to be honored at our assembly, we invite them to fill out the signup form below. Further details on the assembly itself can be found in the form, including an invitation flier that you can give to your Veteran. Please fill this form out by October 30th

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Please use the link below to sign up for a time to meet with your child's teacher. If you need any assistance, please contact the Evergreen office. The deadline to sign up for conferences is November 1st, so don't delay! Sign up today!

Halloween Parade & Party

Evergreen Elementary School will be hosting a Halloween costume parade and classroom party on Tuesday, October 31st. The parade will be outside at 1:45 p.m., weather permitting. Classroom parties will begin following the Halloween parade at 2:00 p.m.

Costumes should be school appropriate for both students and adults attending the parade and Halloween parties. Please make sure your child can put on their own costumes over their clothes after lunchtime for the parade. Refer to the below list of examples of inappropriate costume attire.

  • No weapons

  • No violent or explicit costumes

  • No blood

  • No face painting/make-up

  • No fully covered face masks

Following our parade, students will head back to their classrooms for a Halloween-themed class party. The PTA will be providing snacks for our Halloween parties; please do not send additional treats, snacks, or candy bags with your student on this day.

We recognize that not all families celebrate or participate in this holiday. For families not wanting to participate in a Halloween-themed party, we have planned an alternative fall-themed party in the art room with Mrs. Orr. Any student who would rather not participate in the Halloween activities can attend the Fall-Themed Party with Mrs. Orr. If you would prefer your child not participate in one of the Halloween-themed activities, please fill out the attached form and return to your child's classroom teacher by Wednesday, October 25th, 2023.


3 Collections/Fundraisers Happening Now!

We have three separate donation/clothing fundraiser/collections happening at Evergreen right now. The first one is for sneakers only. (Please read below). The funds raised through this will go towards the PTA. The second one is for coats only. We are pairing up with the Carol Stream Rotary Club for this annual coat drive. The third one is for clothes, hats, handbags, belts, bedding, linens, and any other shoes. This is for Evergreen's leadership club and Club Evergreen.


So.... go through your closets and start donating if you are able!!

Sneaker Drive

Did you know that your gently worn sneakers could help Benjamin/Evergreen PTA?


Well, they can and here’s how…Our school is participating in a fundraiser where there is nothing to buy or sell; All we need is your support and your gently worn, used, or new sneakers!


Here’s how you can help:

Start in your and your family’s closets and gather as many pair of sneakers that you no longer want; maybe you’ve out-grown them, they’re out of style, or out of season. If you and your household have 20 pairs, great! If not, don’t worry. You can ask your neighbors, friends, co-workers, and anyone in your social networks to help out. Every pair counts! Please bring the sneakers into Evergreen and put them in the yellow container by the main office. (The container outside is for a different purpose... more on that to come!)


The sneakers that we all collect will help raise money to support our program AND will help our

environment by keeping sneakers out of landfills.


Can we count on you?

Eagle Spirit

The PTA has coordinated new Evergreen spirit wear for purchase. Orders can be shipped home or be picked up at the SBI location.

Driver's License

If you are visiting Evergreen for a meeting or volunteering, you will need to provide your driver's license every time you are coming in. We have a new security system that provides an additional layer of security for adults that are coming into the building. Thank you very much!!

Dogs/Pets on Property

Please make sure that dogs and pets are not on Evergreen property during arrival and dismissal. This includes the grassy area by the marquee in the front of the building. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!

If you are in need of before or after school care, please contact palscare.com for more information.

Absences

If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason, please call the Evergreen Office, 630-876-7810, to report your child's absence no later than 8:00 AM the day of the absence. Please only email your child's classroom teacher about an absence after you have called the office. You can leave a message about an absence on the attendance line at anytime.

October 20th: Early Dismissal (Dismissal @ 11:40, No preschool attendance)

October 20th: PTA Fun Run (Students participate during class)

October 31st: Halloween Parade (1:45) and Party (2:00)
