Ivan Green Weekly Update
January 25, 2024
Welcome from Mr. Hiley
Dear IG Families:
What a difference a week makes! Last week it was too cold to play outside. This week it was too wet. This winter is surely one of extremes! We are hoping your little Lancer can get outside this weekend.
REMINDER: There is NO SCHOOL tomorrow, January 26. We are closed for a school improvement day.
You are not too late to join us for Lunch with Lancers. The link and information is below.
Thank you to the small crowd who joined us for this month's Coffee with the Principal. It was a delight to share some time with you and Superintendent Grow.
Finally, we have had so much fun picking names for our new mascot! We narrowed it down from the for semifinalists to pick Mr. HEARTly! The students were gathered for Community Circle today for the big announcement. The other finalist were Snuggles, Lovey, and Ruby, but Mr. HEARTly got the nod with 14 votes!
Sincerely,
Lucas Hiley, Ed.D.
Principal

Winter Health Tip from Nurse Izzo
Winter is a prime time for spread of illnesses due to the holidays, travel, and being stuck indoors. This time of year, we expect to see Influenza, RSV, Strep Throat, stomach bugs, the common cold, and a handful of other viral/bacterial illnesses that cause similar symptoms, such as fever, sore throat, cough that may linger, runny nose, congestion, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
At Ivan Green, we are seeing ALL the illnesses, which is common. The best thing that you can do to stop the spread of infection is ensuring proper hand hygiene! Make sure that your students are washing their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, ensuring that all surfaces of the hands have been cleaned. Help your student cover coughs and sneezes. Have your families take their shoes off when entering the home. Encourage your student to keep their hands away from their faces, eyes, nose, and mouths. If your little Lancer becomes symptomatic, please follow proper policies for keeping them home. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me in the health office. My direct line is 339-1314. Thank you for helping us keep our little Lancer’s healthy!
Lunch with Lancers
Lunch with Lancers - NEXT Week
We are excited to announce that we will be having LUNCH with LANCERS the week of January 29. We are inviting adult family members to join their Ivan Green student for lunch any day that week. We have sent home an info sheet that includes your child's lunch time. This event will be restricted to the cafeteria (and playground if you would like to go).
To help us celebrate, our kitchen staff is offering some treats (chips and ice cream) for purchase! Normally these snacks are for purchase only on Fridays, but we are offering them all week, whether your child has a grown-up in for lunch or not.
In addition to the snacks, If adults want to purchase an entree, it is $4.00. That includes just the main course, so to round out your meal, we offer a la carte items. Milk $0.75, 4oz. yogurt $0.85, fruit $0.85 and juice $0.60.
If you are planning on coming in for lunch, we would like to be able to plan for you. Please click here to "order" a lunch.
Peek at our Week
It was career week in kindergarten, so there are many pictures of students learning about being a plumber. There are also some kindergarteners doing kindergarten things and our three staff GLOW Award Winners for the month of January. They were voted for by staff for being cheerful and positive. From left to right: Mrs. Covel, Ms. Taylor, and Mrs. Baldwin.
