Jennifer LaGarde, aka "Library Girl", will present on the topic of next generation information literacy which is found in her book Developing Digital Detectives. Participants will leave with real world ideas that they can apply as soon as they get back to their library on the topic of information literacy. Participants will also receive a copy of Developing Digital Detectives by Jennifer LaGarde and Darren Hudgens.

All school librarians are encouraged to attend. Please register no later than February 28th to ensure you receive a copy of the book.

This will also count as one of the four meetings for SLS Communication Coordinators as mandated by NY State Education Law 90.18.

Are you finding that you’re struggling to get back into the swing of how our InterLibrary Loan (ILL) system works in the WSWHE region, post-pandemic? Are you new to the area, or new to your location, lost staff who made this magically happen, or otherwise finding that you’re having to do ILLs and feel like you’re missing steps in what to do? Join us for virtual sessions to learn best practices and brush up on ILL procedures. We’ll touch upon “ILL etiquette” such as making requests, labeling for transit, what to print, how to keep track in our union catalog, and how to take an ILL item and temporarily circulate it within your own local catalog. We will also review how to ILL beyond our school BOCES region, as well as what you can ask us to try to find besides books.

The Empire State Information Fluency Continuum, ESIFC, includes the information literacy skills that school librarians use to teach students. In this asynchronous professional development, participants will follow the inquiry cycle to delve into the ESIFC. There will be activities each step of the way and an opportunity for participants to interact with other participants through some of those activities asynchronously. This PD will be open to participants beginning February 1, 2023 through May 31, 2023. All work must be submitted no later than 11:59 pm on May 31, 2023 in order to receive credit. If you register after February 1, PLEASE EMAIL KERRIE, KBURCH@WSWHEBOCES.ORG, WHEN YOU REGISTER SO YOU CAN RECEIVE THE INFORMATION TO PARTICIPATE. Credit will be given after May 31st.
