Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students and Families!
I would like to extend a huge congratulations to our newest State Champions: Isabella Capra,
Ava Schreffler, Samantha Astorga & Kenzie Bigej in the 4x400 relay and Omar Villanueva in the 200 meter sprint. In addition, Cohen Hall earned 3rd in the 200 as well as 2nd in the 100. Villanueva finished 6th in the 100. Maddox Oliver ran to 10th in the 1500 meters, the 4x100 relay team of Jeromy Strong, Hall, Villanueva, and Treyson Wakefield earned 3rd, and the 4x400 team of Hall, Oliver, Villanueva, and Logan Peterson earned 8th. Wakefield finished 4th in the triple jump and ninth in the long jump. The men’s team earned a 5th place state finish. On the women’s side, in addition to the 4x400 win, Bigej claimed 3rd in the 1500 and 3000, Capra made a 400 finals appearance, and Kalli Kessler finished 10th in the high jump. The women’s team placed 11th in the state.
Overall, Spring sports had a great season, and that success is reflected in the number of Northwest Oregon Conference awards. See below for a full list of honors. And...drumroll please, we are also extremely Canby Proud that every single OSAA team for the 2022-23 school year was honored as an Academic All State Team, meaning that the average varsity student-athlete GPA was 3.0 or higher! #ROLLCOUGS
Our students have many academic accomplishments as well and showcase their talents in so many ways. Coming up this week, the senior awards ceremony and graduation highlight these achievements. We are so proud of the graduating class of 2023.
Please also see the information around summer credit recovery and incoming freshman summer jump opportunities for students. These are important options for students who need to recapture a credit or incoming freshman who want to get a taste of high school. Please look for more information in this newsletter.
Have a wonderful week!
Best,
Cari Sloan

Graduation All Night Party
Please help us celebrate the Canby High School Class of 2023 by signing up to volunteer at the Senior "GAP" All NIght Party on Friday, June 9th. We need as many volunteers as possible to make this an amazing event for our graduates. Senior parents are more than welcome to sign up to help, but we also need parents who do not have seniors. Think of volunteering at this event as paying it forward. Volunteering gives the senior parents a chance to attend graduation, and visit with family and friends who might be visiting for graduation. Then when it's you students turn to graduate, other parents will do the same for you.
When signing up, please make sure that you add an email and a phone number. I will be sending out reminders as we get closer to the event. The location will not be disclosed until a couple of hours before the event, because we want to surprise the student, but know that it is within a half an hour drive.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email Amber Bedortha at canbyamber@yahoo.com.

Attendance at CHS
To ensure the accuracy and efficiency of our attendance process, please remember the following guidelines:
If your student needs to leave class for an appointment or because they are sick, inform the attendance office 30 MINUTES PRIOR to leave time. This will help us ensure that your student receives a note to leave class in a timely manner. Students will not be excused without a note.
Pre-Excused Absence: For any anticipated absence that will be more than three days, students are expected to pick up a Pre-Excused Absence Form from Jessie Munoz at the Attendance Office.
To report an absence, call Jessie Munoz at our attendance line at 503-263-7210 or email chs-attendance@canby.k12.or.us.
Students have 48 hours to have unexcused absences excused. Students may lose the opportunity to make up work for credit due to unexcused absences. Please report an absence as soon as possible.
Remember that attendance matters and students who attend class regularly are more likely to stay on track, graduate on time, learn deeply, and get the most from their high school experience.
