Canby High School Family Newsletter
For the Week of May 12th to 18th, 2022
Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students and Families!
Our May continues to be busy and this week we see a couple of big transition activities. On Thursday, our Seniors will revive the newer tradition of the “Graduation Walk.” The Class of 2022 will don their robes and visit our elementary and middle schools to present themselves to our future cougars. In the past, this has been a fun and inspiring event for all those involved. We look forward to seeing the younger students celebrate our grads.
Also, on Thursday afternoon, our incoming 8th grade students will be visiting CHS. Our future freshmen will meet with CHS students, receive tours, and get some exposure to activities that will be available to them. It’s another fun event as we get our 8th graders to finish strong and get ready for the move.
In the world of music, congratulations to our Concert Choir! Last weekend they finished 5th at the state championships. Great job! And we wish the best of luck to our Concert Band. On Saturday, they also compete in the state championships at 8am at the LaSells Stewart Center on the OSU campus in Corvallis. This is the first time the CHS band has reached this level of competition! Let’s do this, Cougars!
Some of our sports competitions are coming to a close. Both our boys and girls golf teams qualified for regionals, and Jake Rodgers and Tyler Olson qualified for state next week. Good luck Jake and Tyler!
Also, both tennis teams compete in the long awaited district tournament today through Friday.
And, a reminder… Our Spring musical Sweeney Todd is in its second week. Our students are doing a great job with this entertaining show, and we hope to pack the house with the remaining performances. Show times on Thursday and Friday are 7pm. Saturday performances are 2pm and 7pm. Admission is $10 for general seating and $8 for students/youth. Admission for students with Canby ASB cards is free.
Finally, mark your calendars! Our groundbreaking ceremony for our new science wing construction is scheduled for June 8th at 2:45pm. Everyone is invited.
Have a good week. And Go Cougars!

Graduation All-Night Party (GAP)
Please help us celebrate the Canby High School Class of 2022 by signing up to volunteer at the Senior "GAP" All NIght Party on Friday, June 3rd. We need as many volunteers as possible to make this an amazing event for our graduates. Senior parents are more than welcome to sign up to help, but we also need parents who do not have seniors. Think of volunteering at this event as paying it forward. Volunteering gives the senior parents a chance to attend graduation, and visit with family and friends who might be visiting for graduation. Then when it's your students turn to graduate, other parents will do the same for you.
When signing up, please make sure that you add an email and a phone number. I will be sending out reminders as we get closer to the event. The location will not be disclosed until a couple of days before the event, because we want to surprise the student, but know that it is within a half an hour drive.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email Amber Bedortha at canbyamber@yahoo.com.
Families were emailed and texted a link to two GAP information sheets on 4.13.22. Here they are again:

Attendance and Sick Students
To ensure the accuracy and efficiency of our attendance process, please remember the following guidelines:
To report an absence, call our attendance line at 503-263-7210 or email chs-attendance@canby.k12.or.us.
Please report an absence as soon as possible and no later than 48 hours after the absence.
If your student needs to leave class for an appointment, inform the attendance office as soon as possible. This will help us ensure that your student receives a note to leave class in a timely manner.
Remember that attendance matters and students who attend class regularly are more likely to stay on track, graduate on time, learn deeply, and get the most from their high school experience.
