June has arrived and we are approaching the finish line!
As we begin to close off the school year, it again proved to be a memorable one. Thank you to everyone for working with us this year. Thank you to the entire staff for their expertise and exceptional work with our students this year. We were able to enjoy a healthy balance of learning, activities, field trips and fun for our students. JSS staff…you make a difference! Also, a big thank you to our Jack Stuart School (Parent) Council for working so hard to ensure so many positive experiences for our JSS students, and many needed items for our school. To all our parents/guardians, your support and care has been felt and very much appreciated. We could not have gone far without you! Lastly, to our student jaguars, you make our world go around! Special good-bye to our grade 5 students. Our grade 5 farewell is scheduled for Friday, June 9, 2023. Thanks for being you!
Early Learning registration is in full swing in Battle River. Our Success Starts Early event for Pre-K and Kindergarten in Jack Stuart School will be taking place on Friday, June 16 from 11 am to 3 pm. Students who have registered will be contacted to book scheduled times to meet their teacher(s) and get oriented to the school. Those not registered are still welcome to drop in during the school's scheduled times. Our pre-kindergarten program at Jack Stuart School is reaching capacity. If you or someone you know has not yet registered for Pre-K they should do so as soon as possible. Once our pre-Kindergarten program reaches capacity, students will be put on a waitlist. Parents will be contacted once we have determined whether we have the ability to add additional programs.
JSS students continue to live their School Promise each day (Promise to take care of themselves, each other and JSS, and pledge they won’t forget the promise). Each week, we randomly pick two student Jaguar Cards (from all the student names submitted each month into Jaguar Card Bin) to enjoy a free lunch. 198 JSS students received Jaguar Cards in September, 262 in October, another 102 in November, 96 students in December, 204 more in January, 68 in February, 207 more in March, 102 in April, and 127 in May…for a total of 1366 Jaguar Cards so far this school year. Stay tuned for our June totals. We are very proud of all our students living the school pledge each day.
Have a wonderful summer everyone.
School resumes on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.

JSS Council & Parents’ Society
We are looking for a new secretary for next year. This is a position that must be filled in order for JSS Parent Council and Society to continue. The requirements are that you attend once a month meetings (via Google meet or in person) and take notes on what is discussed. You will also get to have your opinions and ideas heard and vote on things as an executive member.
If you are interested in helping us out with this next year please contact Terra.

We ran three successful fundraisers this year and all money raised was put back into the school through various “discretionary fund” donations (school, library, classrooms).
Thank you to everyone that participated in our fundraisers and to all of the volunteers. You are why fundraisers are successful and they can’t be done without you.
Many applications went out for playground grants and more money has been received. We still have a lot of money to raise, we are frequently applying for grants and little by little the fund is growing.
The Gr.1 & 4 classes planted extra fundraiser flowers in the planter boxes at the front of the school. They look great and are being used as science lessons for the classes. They do require minimal maintenance over July/Aug (deadheading and watering-hose at school). If anyone is interested in helping out with that please contact Terra.
Hot lunch is now over for the year. Thank you so much to our fantastic hot lunch coordinator Shauna and to all of the volunteers that showed up to help.
Parent Council/Society relies heavily on volunteers to help bring many extra events to our school. To those of you that have donated your time to help out in any way, THANK YOU!

Overdue Notices will be sent out the following week, please check in your child's backpack to see if you received a notice of Overdue books. Any lost or damaged books can be replaced by sending cash with your student or by cheque written to 'Jack Stuart School'.
Public Library Connect is now live in Sora!
Sora, our eBook and eAudiobook app for students, has blended with the Parkland Regional Library to offer more titles to our students! You can follow the very simple instructions to set up SORA. This partnership eliminates the need for students to have a separate public library card. Access should be restricted based on the division of the students.
If students visit this library in Sora, they’ll now see our school as a sign-in option when they borrow a title from the library. Users will have access to content from the public library, based on the publisher-defined audience labels, as follows:
- Juvenile: Grades K-5
- Young Adult: Grades 6-8
- Adult: Grades 9-12 and Staff
