Student Chromebooks
This year, DPS will be cracking down on negligence that leads to Chromebooks damage. If a student has accidentally damaged their Chromebook, the student will be assessed a $25 dollar fee before another Chromebook can be checked out. If damage has occurred due to negligence, students will be assessed the cost of the damage or a full $280 dollars.
We strongly suggest purchasing a trapper keeper or Chromebook case to protect your Chromebook.
Please reach out to your student’s homeroom teacher for further clarification.

Cellphone Policy Reminders
Cell/Mobile phones and other electronic devices (i.e. iPods /MP3 players, tablets, earbuds, smart watches, etc.) are not permitted at school. In order to prioritize learning and promote a healthy and safe school environment, phones will not be allowed during school hours. If your child needs a cellphone for after-school hours, then students are required to turn their cellphone into an adult during homeroom upon arrival. If an electronic device is seen or heard, it will be confiscated. The school is not responsible for any lost, stolen, or confiscated electronic devices. In case of emergency, a phone is available for student use. Additionally, we will be teaching and encouraging students to email/google chat their parents updates and important information through their DPS gmail account.

The Lake MS School Psychologist and School Social Worker are so excited to welcome students back for the 2022-2023 school year!
We know going back to school can be stressful for both parents and students. Here are a few quick tips for preparing your child for a brand new school year!
Begin adjusting your child’s sleep schedule to allow plenty of sleep.
Normalize feeling a bit nervous: Try having open and honest conversations with your children and use phrases like “I can understand why you might feel a bit nervous” or “Going to school can be a bit scary, and exciting too.”
Practice makes perfect: start practicing a morning and evening routine.
Show them pictures of their new school using the Lake Middle School website. Look at pictures of the Lake MS leadership team, these are people they can find in the hallway who will always be willing to help!
Help your child set realistic goals for themselves and let them know it is okay to ask for help and make mistakes. Making mistakes is the first step of learning!

Social-Emotional Strategies
Here at Lake we use a curriculum that helps our students navigate the inevitable stressors of school called Upstream. Students will use these strategies in homeroom every day. If your student is feeling anxious about the start of school, encourage them to follow along with this Upstream video introducing a straetgy called Deep Breathing linked here.
