We are so excited to welcome everyone back to campus for the 2023-2024 school year, where we will do amazing things together! Haw River Elementary prides itself on growing leaders who own their learning and work as a team. This Week:

Monday, 9/11:

-First Day of School- Please remember there is a 3-hour delay. Drop-off will begin at 10:20 am, and instruction will start at 10:50 a.m.

-Staggered Entry Day 1 for Kindergarten and Pre-K

Tuesday, 9/12:

-Open House/Meet the Teacher for all students from 4:00-6:00 p.m.

-Staggered Entry Day 2 for Kindergarten and Pre-K

Looking Forward:

Thursday, 9/21

-Curriculum & Student Support/Advocacy Night from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Reminders:

• School begins at 7:50 a.m. for ALL students Pre-K-5. If you arrive after 7:50, you must park in the Pre-K parking lot and walk in with your students to sign them in before they can go to class.
• If you need to change your child's afternoon transportation, please call the front office at (336) 578-0177 before 2:00 p.m. Teachers cannot check and respond to messages and emails throughout the day when they are teaching. Please do not expect an immediate response from your child's teacher during instructional hours. Office hours for teachers begin after 3:00 p.m.
• Families may come to eat lunch with your students. Please reach out to your child's teacher 24 hours in advance to let them know you are coming so they can plan for seating. Remember: NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR DRINK MAY BE BROUGHT IN. Upon arrival, please sign in at the front office and get a visitor's tag.
• Just a quick safety reminder: If you are signing your students out early (before 2:20 p.m.), you must go inside the front office and check them out. If you arrive early, after 2:20 p.m., to sign your child out, you must wait until the dismissal announcements are made at 2:25 p.m. We appreciate your cooperation with this matter!

The House System

Last year, Haw River Elementary initiated the House System. The House System is a way to connect students and staff across grade levels, to help form personal connections and relationships, and to strengthen our school culture. It is a means by which to engage all in an active community. Everyone will find an immediate identity and point of connection by being a member of a house.

Our school is divided into 4 houses. Each house, designed by the staff at HRE, has its own name, color, element/symbol, motto, and key value. Once students and staff are sorted into their houses, they remain in that house for the remainder of their time at HRE. This year, students will be sorted in a special ceremony on Friday, September 15th!

Students will be awarded points throughout this school year to recognize positive behavior and achievements! Points can also be earned on special occasions such as spirit days, where students will dress up in their house color. All staff members can give out points. The RCA app lets Parents view their students’ points and which house is leading. Here is a quick parent tutorial introducing the app. The HOUSE CUP will be awarded the last week of school to the house with the most cumulative points!

We are excited to continue our House System this year with a new outlook on reinforcing positive behavior, growth, and the importance of community with our Lion Cub Leaders!
