Joy James Library Newsletter

Here are a few things that you need to know about the library:

1. The library is an active, collaborative place. No shushing in this library!

2. Students are welcome at any time with a pass. You will receive 2 lanyard library passes in your box.

3. Library is a joint effort between the teacher and librarian. We want the kids to see us a team!

4. Please ask us if there are any resources that you need. I am always looking for suggestions of books to add to the collection.

5. There will be lots of activities to sign up for in the library. Feel free to choose those activities that are best suited to your class. Please be considerate of others when you sign up as well. We want everyone to have a chance to join in the fun!

Click here for the library schedule for the school year. Any open time without a name in the slot (with the exception of Monday afternoon and Friday) is available for collaboration or planning with Mrs. Scott. Don't forget to utilize those times! Just email scotta@castleberryisd.net

SPECIAL NOTE: We will begin this schedule the week of August 31st. The library will also be open the first week of school and you are welcome to bring your class by for a tour or even to check out books at your leisure Wednesday - Friday.

Every Monday afternoon will be focused on specific Maker Space activities in the library.

All activities will be inquiry or challenge based, giving students the opportunity to create and explore different science concepts in the library. The first month will focus on exploring properties of matter.

Sept 14 - 4th and 5th grade

Sept 21 - 2nd and 3rd grade

Sept 28 - Kinder and 1st grade

On Fridays, a variety of different activities will be hosted in the library. They will range from poetry to science to puppet shows. All of these activities are meant to give you an opportunity to collaborate and explore in the library on a different level. You will serve as a facilitator alongside the librarian during interactive lessons for your class.

On Wednesdays during lunch, the library will be open for teachers to come in to discuss and learn new concepts with technology. Our first Lunch & Learn will be held on Wednesday, September 9th. More information will be coming soon!
