Monday, October 23 - Teacher Workday - No School for Students
Pender County Schools is recognizing Red Ribbon Week, October 22-28, 2023. Red Ribbon Week is a National Initiative to promote drug prevention education and advocacy in youth by bringing awareness and providing resources for youth and their families. Wear RED this week to support drug awareness!

Tuesday - "Your Future's So Bright" - Wear sunglasses & bright/neon or tie dye colors
Wednesday - "Team Up Against Drugs" - Wear Your Favorite College of Team Jersey/shirt
Thursday - "Flip the Script On Drugs" - Teacher dress up as students & students dress up as your favorite teacher
Friday - "BMS is Proud to be Drug/Alcohol Free - Wear your favorite BMS gear or BMS colors (red & black)
Wednesday, October 25 - Join us at Burgaw Middle School for our Title 1 Night

- WHERE: BMS Grade Level Classrooms
- WHY: To introduce our new Math Curriculum and to keep families informed about their child’s education
- Friday, October 27 - Quarter 1 Report Cards Sent Home
- Pender County Health Department (PCHD) will be on our BMS campus on Wednesday, Nov. 8 to administer flu shots to staff and students (for those interested). They will be on campus from approximately 7:45-9:30 am. Students must turn in their consent forms by Oct 31 to our school nurse. Staff can complete the form ahead of time, or on the day of the clinic. See a consent form here PCS Student Flu Consent Form
Our 8th grade students are going on a field trip to NC A&T SU and UNCG in Greensboro, NC on Saturday, October 21, 2023. We will tour both campuses and attend a football game. The cost of the field trip is $40.00 and is due by October 13, 2023. This includes two meals and admission to a football game. We will depart BMS at 5:00 am and return at approximately 10:00 pm that evening. If you have questions, please contact Dr. Jordan at 910-663-3588.

School Hours: 7:30-2:45pm (7:35 tardy bell)
Students exit bus/car at 7:10am (buses utilize the back of school/cars utilize the front of school)
For the 2023-2024 school year breakfast and lunch will be provided, at no cost, to all students at our school

Here Comes the Bus will be available again this school year. Please remember that it is not accessible during the first few weeks of school. Schools will receive an email when Here Comes the Bus is available. Links to access information to distribute at open house is below:
- For students who walk home from school - Students MUST have a walker form signed in order to walk home from campus. If you are new to BMS, or if you have not completed a walker form, please send a note with your child for them to walk home on the first day of school.

Athletics
- Soccer season is here! Earlier this week at BMS, we conducted a soccer interest meeting with students. Each student was given a Gfeller/Waller Concussion form and a student and parent consent to participate form. Some students (without physicals on file) were given physical forms as well. These forms are to be filled out completely and returned to the athletic department prior to tryouts. Soccer tryouts are Oct 24 and 25 from 3:00-4:30.

PATH is providing 2 Nurse Practitioners on Mon. Nov. 20 for students sport physicals. All sports physicals must be on file with Coach Brown before trying out for any athletics team.
Each parent/guardian needs:

B. have the NCHSAA health history pages completed and returned to Nurse Avery by Nov. 9.
