Teasley Vision Statement:
WELCOME TO OUR HIVE!!!
Thank you for a GREAT first 2 days of school!
Please be sure to return the family information guide and clinic card that came home on the first day inside the Cobb folder. Please return them ASAP.
Classroom Management:
I want to set high expectations for your child’s classroom behavior. In order to create an environment where all students can excel, I will strictly enforce our essential agreements (Class Rules). I want to give praise and reward those students who are following those agreements, while also redirecting and reminding students who need more guidance. As we learn our classroom rules and procedures, students may need to have a quick time out in the classroom to reflect on their disruptive behavior without me sending a note home to notify you. I will ALWAYS contact you if I see a pattern of behavior that needs a change.
Essential Agreements - (class rules)
Our class brainstormed ideas that are important to help us learn and have a successful year in first grade.
1. Always Be Safe
2. Help Each Other Learn
Therefore, the class agreed that these rules were essential to meeting our goals:
1. Be a good listener
2. Be kind with our words, bodies, and things.
3. Always do your best
Throughout the school year we will discuss ways to solve our problems. We will use the “I feel” strategy. Students will say: I feel __________ when you_________. Can you please ____? This will give students the ownership and responsibility to begin to problem solve and make positive changes in their learning environment.
Bathroom Breaks: As a class, we take 4 restroom breaks throughout the day. I hope to minimize classroom disruptions by allowing 2 additional times for the restroom throughout the day as needed. Every child is allowed to go to the restroom if it is an emergency. If your child has a medical concern, please reach out to me.
Water and Snacks: Please send your child with a water bottle they can sip on throughout the day and a hearty snack, as we eat lunch later in the day. We eat snack around 10:00.
Daily Folder
Please check your child’s folder each day. Place any change of transportation notes in the front pocket. Please fill out any paperwork and return as soon as possible. Thank you!
Important Transportation Information
- No changes of transportation can be accepted over Remind, Class Dojo, email, etc. Changes during the school day must be made in writing to the office and received by 1:30 each day.
• Any kids staying after school for clubs must have a written transportation change for that day. Please send a note EACH DAY that they are staying for ASP enrichment. This cuts down on confusion if there is ever a substitute teacher in the class.
Thank you!

Where We are in Place and Time- 1st
Central Idea: Pioneers drive change.
Lines of Inquiry:
-Aspects of the past still influence us, today.
-People can be influenced to make changes.
-Some practices and behaviors have remained and stayed the same.
Teacher goals for students’ learning:
-Students will be able to identify the impact historical figures have had on our lives (how have our lives changed because of these historical figures).
-Students will be able to identify what motivated these pioneers to want to make a change.
-Students will be able to identify how these pioneers exhibited the IB profile traits.
How can you help at home?
- Encourage your child to research the historical figures we are learning about, as well as, any who have helped shape our history.
- Is there an injustice around you? What would you do to change or improve the injustice/situation?
Learner Profile Connection
This unit we will focus on being a risk-taker, principled, and a communicator.
Encourage them at home to be risk-taker by:
*Encourage your child to try new things- new foods, a new ride, a new drink, or a new activity.
*Encourage them to share their opinion with others
*Be careful to explain to your child the difference between being a risk taker and doing dangerous things.
Encourage them at home to be principled by:
*Encourage your child to create a game with rules, then encourage them to stick to those rules.
*Encourage your child to play games where there are teams-learning to work with people is just as important as working alone.
*Talk with your child about being a good winner or loser. It’s not about the outcome of the game, it’s about the fun!
Encourage them at home to be communicator by:
*Encourage your child to stay in touch with relatives via email, letter, or phone.
* Talk with your child- ask them questions that causes them to give more than a simple response. Ex: “If you enough money to buy anything you would like, what would you buy and why?”
*Have your child explain the steps to a problem/situation. For example: How to make a PBJ.
