1st Semester Attendance
This is a friendly reminder that our first semester of the 2023-2024 school year ends on January 19, 2024. This means that ALL parent notes and/or medical documentation for all absences must be turned into Mrs. Jones our data manager by 3:00 p.m. on 1/19/24! Attendance can not be changed for the 1st semester can not be changed after 1/19/24. If you have questions please contact Mrs. Jones or Ms. Cooks.
In accordance with the North Carolina Compulsory Attendance Law (G.S. 115C-378. Article 26) and State Board of Education Policies ATND-000, OCS Board Policy #4400 Attendance states students are not permitted to have more than 10 unexcused absences per semester. School attendance is the first step to academic success. Students with chronic attendance records will be addressed by teachers, administrators, and the school social worker. Parents/guardians can be held responsible for chronic unexcused absences and poor attendance through court action.
If your student is refusing to come to school and/or there are other factors affecting your student’s ability to attend school regularly, please reach out to our school social worker, Ms. Croisetiere.

What should you report?
You can help save lives by reporting observed threats, behaviors, actions, and harassment. Here are examples of some of the most common behaviors and incidents to report:
- Acts of violence, with or without weapons
- Verbal or physical abuse, assault or harassment
- Sexual abuse, assault or harassment
- Threats seen on social media
- Bullying, fighting, harassment or intimidating behaviors
- Bragging about weapons or a planned attack
- Depression, anxiety or loss of self-control
- Hopelessness, excessive guilt or worthlessness
- Reckless behavior, theft and petty crimes
- Social isolation or withdrawal
- Substance or alcohol abuse
- Suicide threats, cutting or other self-harm
- Any other troubling situation or behavior
