This week, Fulton County Schools held their annual Teacher of the Year luncheon. FAST had the privilege of celebrating music teacher Mr. Hendry as Teacher of the Year and school nurse, Victoria Murray as Professional of the Year at this event.

Mr. Hendry has been at FAST for the past two years and has made a big impression on his students in that time. He graduated from the University of Mobile with a degree in Music Education and is certified to teach K-12. He has led students in musical performances for graduation ceremonies and holidays, and was an integral part of the Cultural Arts Festival last year. Give him a wave when you see him at carpool where you can find him every day rain or shine.

This is Nurse Victoria's sixth year at FAST. Originally from NY, Ms. Murray has been in Atlanta for 8 years. Her two older children graduated FAST in 2022 and 2023, and she is looking forward to her younger children starting kindergarten here over the next two years. In addition to the every day cuts and colds that come through the clinic, she helped navigate FAST through the pandemic and ensures the well being of a few of our students with complex medical needs while they are here.

We are so grateful to have such dedicated professionals caring for our students every day.

The FAST Astros soccer team kicked off their season on Wednesday with a loss to Hopewell Middle School. Friday evening they took a win by default when Ridgeview canceled. We are looking forward to a great season with these young athletes. They have games Wednesdays and Fridays. They would love to have you come and cheer them on!

We still have some used Chromebooks available for sale. We cannot use them as they are not compatible with our testing platform; however, they are great to have an extra device for students to do their homework. We are selling them for $50 each while supplies last. Please contact justin.mercado@fastk8.org for information on how to purchase one.

Do you love FAST? Tell your friends! Applications for the 2024-25 school year will open on January 1, 2024 and tours for prospective families are already scheduled. During these informational tours, parents will learn about our curriculum, find out what sets FAST apart from traditional schools, and tour our campus. While we are still early in the school year, it is already time to start thinking about next year. For those students who will be graduating FAST this year, there are many options for high school. Magnet, charter, and private school tours begin in October. Other high schools will begin informational sessions in a few months.

FAST is a smoke-free environment. Whether you are in the building, in your car, or anywhere else on campus please refrain from smoking or vaping at all times.

Please remember to send your child to school with lunch every day or order through Ordo. Ordo orders must be placed by midnight on Friday for the following week. We have had a large number of students without lunch every day. Lunches must be nut free and ready-to-eat (we cannot microwave lunches).

Individual student Milestones scores from Spring 2023 have been released. You can view your child's results in Infinite Campus. Please follow the directions below to access scores:

• Click on “More” If you don’t see the option for “More”, click the three lines at the top left corner to display the menu

• Click SLDS Portal

• Click “Performance”

• Select “Georgia Milestones Individual Student Report (ISR)”

Is scheduled for October 3. All students are expected to wear a FAST logo cobalt blue shirt for school pictures. If you have not already purchased one, they can be ordered exclusively through Lands' End. We are using Jostens for school pictures this year. You will be able to preview pictures before committing to buy and you can purchase just the sizes and backgrounds you want.

As a reminder, all visitors - including parents - must check in at the front desk in Innovation Hall upon arrival. No one is permitted to enter Student Hall without having first checked in at the front desk. Parents are not permitted to walk their student to their classroom. We have staff available during morning drop-off to ensure students are attended to.

Students are expected to be in their homeroom by 7:40am each day. If they arrive after 8am, you will need to sign them in at the front office. If your student misses school, please send the absence excuse to attendance@fastk8.org

All students are expected to be in proper uniform every day. Repeat violations of uniform code will result in a call from the front office with a request to bring the appropriate clothing for the student. FAST uniform includes FAST logo polo or spirit wear, khaki or navy bottoms (of black for middle school). Shirts without the FAST logo are not considered proper uniform.

REMEMBER - Spirit Wear t-shirts can be worn daily as a uniform option! Order your long-sleeved shirts now to be ready for colder weather – it will be here sooner than you think (but not soon enough)!

***Important Note on Spirit Wear*****

The third round of spirit wear is expected to be in the second week of September. We will get it sorted and into backpacks as soon as possible once it arrives.
Due to an error with our supplier, some families that ordered spirit wear have not gotten their orders. Unfortunately, the supplier did not fulfill all the style and size requests. We are working to get those in ASAP. We will sort and deliver to students to take home in their backpacks as soon as they arrive.

If you received an order that was missing pieces, we have that information, but feel free to email us at pto@fastk8.org. The same applies to anyone who received an incorrect order.
