Humane Society Fundraiser
We were able to donate $809.14 to the Humane Society of Idaho. They sent a thank you to us for our donation. They shared a story about Sammy a lab mix. He came to them with a leg that had sustained trauma and a broken hip which had healed improperly. They were able to perform two surgeries and save his leg. Sammy is now in a forever home. Our donated money goes to help fund animals like this one.
Basketball Season
Basketball season is coming to an end. We hope all athletes had a great time and learned some fundamentals of basketball. Being part of a team win or lose is a great learning experience. After Feb. 6th only teams that have won will have practice. Feb. 8th is the last game at 4:15. Afterwards will be the awards ceremony. It will be at 5:00, medals and certificates will be given out to all athletes. We hope everyone can make it to celebrate the season.
Upcoming Soccer Season
Our next sport is soccer, look for sign up forms coming out March 1. Three coaches are still needed please contact Mrs. Hylton (Hylton.brittany@westada.org) if you are interested. More to come.
Kindness Week
Help us celebrate Kindness Week with Dress Up Days. Kindness week starts February 12-16. See below for the dress up day themes. We will have other activities throughout the week to celebrate.
Pick-Up Procedures Transformation
Parent Walk-Up
Thank you all for your support. This new process has been so successful for everyone. Please stay on the inside of the blue cones on the blacktop and wait for your child. They will be waiting by their grade level marker. This keeps our walkways open for students walking home or to the Boys and Girls Club.
Kinder Pick Up
Kinder students can be picked up through this side gate off the blacktop.

PTO Information
Many parents fear that their role in a PTO group will be to solicit fundraising donations from community members, going door-to-door until a goal is reached. This just isn’t the case. While parents are always welcome to offer new ideas for school fundraising campaigns, and can even chair a given fundraising campaigns in some districts, that’s not the primary goal of the PTO. Parents aren’t expected to be fundraisers. They’re expected to be members, supporters, volunteers, and proud parents working for the benefit of all students in the district. Please consider joining us, you don't have to commit to coming every week.
The next meeting is February 15th at 5:00 PM.
3rd Grade Field Trip
On February 23rd our 3rd grade students will be going to Meridian Middle School to watch the Boise Philharmonic Symphony. Students will be taking the bus. If you have a third grader look out for information from your student's teacher.
Community School Updates
We are so grateful to everyone who continues to donate and support our community school.
We are currently running low on Hygiene items:
Shampoo
conditioner
body wash
face wash
toothbrushes
ChapStick
If you or anyone you know is looking to donate, we would happily accept these items at any time! They go right back out to families within our school and surrounding schools in the district.
Also, we were generously donated a storage cabinet that I have set outside the front door to the community school! This is where any donations can be placed if I'm not in the building to accept them, or if your family has a request, I can place them in the cabinet to be picked up, again if I'm not in the building. Sending a huge thank you to Center Point Church for the donation! It's such a huge help!
If your family is in need of emergency items such as warm clothing, coats, hygiene items, household cleaning items, food, etc., please contact Melanie Morales at morales.melanie@westada.org, or call at 208-855-4335 ext. 2002.
Counselor's Corner
Did you know that the Tools in the Toolbox are not just for your students? The philosophy and mindset behind each of our tools is beneficial to all people, not just kids. One of the ways that children learn how to self-regulate and to have a healthy balance of emotions is to have a care giver that co-regulates with them during times of distress.
That can look as simple as a parent who stays calm and helps the child process through a difficult and frustrating situation rather than escalating and becoming frustrated along with the child. I encourage you to check out the Tools of Toolbox on the Meridian Elementary website under the counselor services and explore using them for yourself.
Please contact Mr. Snell with any questions or concerns regarding your student(s) mental health.

Weather Watch
Continue to watch for slick surfaces as the blacktop and cement can be slick. Please watch your step. It is a good idea to keep up with the weather as it changes frequently.
Lost and Found
Continue to encourage your students to pick up lost clothes. This time of year, clothes need to be picked up quickly or they can get wet, frozen, and/or ruined. We will regularly be donating left items. Please come and look it is overflowing with clothes and lunchboxes. It is outside so you can come and check it anytime.
