**TENTATIVE date for the 8th Grade Recognition ceremony is scheduled for June 13th at 7:00 PM. It's important to note that participation in Recognition, similar to any field trip, concert, or sporting event, is not guaranteed; it's up to each student to determine if they participate. 8th grade students need to be passing all of their classes and maintain good standing with discipline. It's worth mentioning that almost almost all 200 8th grade students rose to meet these standards last year, demonstrating that it's achievable for all. At Garrison, we believe in the potential of each student to meet these expectations and look forward to celebrating their achievements together!
A Big Ask with a BIG THANK YOU!
Garrison would love your help if you are able to support us in any one of these events?
**Bring some food for teachers for conferences or help us clean up after the fact!
**Head to Whitman College for a science field trip!
**Accompany 8th graders on the electives and career field trip to Wa-Hi to get kids excited about high school!
No Tardy Challenge
This upcoming Wednesday, we're hosting a NO TARDY challenge! Students will receive SPECIAL school store coins for punctuality. The distribution of these SPECIAL coins will be a surprise, so it's wise to be on time for ALL classes.
March 11th "Planning Your Future" 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
It's crucial to mark your calendars for Monday, March 11th, as we have a mandatory workshop for families of 8th-grade students. Administration from WA HI and guidance counselors will lead discussions on registration. Your attendance is highly encouraged as this information is vital for your child's academic planning.
Principal's Note
Dear Families,
Last week, we were fortunate to have Erin Jones visit us, bringing inspiration to our school community. Ms. Jones engaged with various student groups, emphasizing the importance of authenticity, gratitude, and kindness. The day culminated in an assembly attended by all students.
Following Ms. Jones's visit, our PAC students were inspired to launch a Kindness Campaign, adding to the uplifting atmosphere for both students and staff.
Spring conferences are approaching. On Wednesday, March 6th from 4:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m., Garrison staff will be available in both the large and small gymnasiums for meetings. To ensure we accommodate as many parents as possible, each meeting will be limited to 5-7 minutes, based on feedback received last fall regarding wait times.
On Thursday, March 7th, staff members will be available for drop-in conferences from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a lunch break for all teachers from 11:30-12:00. While every effort will be made to be present in classrooms, there may be times when staff are engaged in scheduled conferences with other families. In such cases, a note will be placed on their door indicating a return time.
Additionally, we want to address requests for student class changes. Before any schedule adjustments are made, it is important for there to be a meeting involving the teacher, parents, students, administration, and/or counselor. This collaborative approach allows for open dialogue, the exchange of viewpoints, and the development of a plan if necessary.
Should you wish to request a change of placement for your child, we will arrange a meeting with all stakeholders. Conferences provide an ideal opportunity for this discussion, and administrators and counselors will be available on Wednesday evening or Thursday to address any concerns regarding class or teacher changes.
We, the Garrison Staff, look forward to seeing you during the upcoming week for spring conferences.
