Join Focus Group | Brick Fundraiser Live | Travel the World

October 20, 2023
From the Desk of Superintendent, Dr. Kevin S. Miller
Dear Licking Heights Parents,
We need to hear from you! Licking Heights Schools is working with the Louisville-based Schlechty Center to develop a long-term strategic plan for the district. A key part of the process is hearing the perspectives and experiences of various groups in our community. The voice of our parents is very important for this process.
Join us for a 45-minute focus group led by the Schlechty Center. Focus groups will take place on Tuesday, October 31 and Wednesday, November 1 at different times throughout the day.
Groups include:
Parents/guardians of diverse learners
Parents/guardians of high school students
Parents/guardians of North Elementary Students
Parents/guardians of West Elementary Students
Parents/guardians of South Elementary Students
Parents/guardians of Central Intermediate Students
Parents/guardians of middle school students
Spanish, Nepali, and Somali interpreters will be available at the focus groups for parents/guardians of diverse learners. Click the button below to see the time frames of each group and to sign up to participate. We can only take 15 people in each group–do not miss your chance to shape the future of Licking Heights.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kevin S. Miller, Superintendent
Please note that the students of parents/guardians who come to the focus groups at North, South, West, Central, and the middle school will be supervised by personnel from each respective school until the focus group is finished.

Food Service Update: Use MySchoolBucks to Simplify Payment
We offer a free service to all parents/guardians through the MySchoolBucks website. Families can set up an account for free, which will allow them to review purchases, check account balances, and set up email reminders when their student’s meal account balance is low. They can also make payments online and set up automatic payments for a small fee.
PLEASE NOTE: Online payments can take up to 24 hours to appear on a student’s account. For this reason, we recommend making online payments well in advance or utilize the notification/automatic payment feature by setting a threshold of at least two days' worth of meals, therefore allowing plenty of time for your student's account to be replenished.
MySchoolBucks also has a "bonus meal program" wherein students can earn a free meal with a $50.00 online deposit at the elementary level or a $55.00 online deposit at the Middle School/High School level.
Transportation Update: Welcome, Mr. Beltran + National School Bus Safety Week
Join us in welcoming our newest driver, Omar Beltran. Mr. Beltran will begin driving on Mon., Oct. 23.
Held during the third full week of October each year, National School Bus Safety Week is an active and evolving public education program and an excellent way for parents, students, teachers, motorists, school bus operators, school administrators, and other interested parties to join forces and address the importance of school bus safety. Designed to promote school bus safety, school districts throughout the country observe School Bus Safety Week.
Reminder: If you see the yellow flashing lights on a school bus, be prepared, as they will be turning red and you MUST stop for the bus. Help us keep our students safe!

South Elementary: How to Be GOOD
Students at South Elementary were treated to a special guest when Mr. Ron Derry from the GOOD (Going On Or Defeated) Program came to visit. Sponsored by the Lions Club, Mr. Derry has been speaking to students for 25 years about perseverance, trustworthiness, and working together with each other and teachers to reach solutions.
West Elementary: Chowing Down on Delicious Numbers
Mrs. Stevens’ first-grade class got to enjoy the nice weather recently and spent time outside comparing numbers using the greater than and less than symbols. They made hungry alligators to remind them that they always want to eat the bigger number. Students took their alligators and chalk home to keep the fun and practice going.
North Elementary: Start Your Engines for Reading Success
Vroom, vroom—Mrs. Bush's class at North is revving up their letter skills. Students used cars to trace letter formations and dot markers for more letter fun. Keep those fine motor skills rolling.
Central Intermediate: Learning About Native People
Ms. Neldon's fifth-grade explorers are delving into Native American cultures. They had a blast immersing themselves in the 1800s Nez Perce tradition of the "stick game."
Middle School: Sprinting Towards Success
Lucas Limbrick ran into the record books for Licking Heights Middle School—he clocked an amazing time of 10:45.37 in the two-mile race at Pickerington, breaking the record of 11:04 set by Sean Platt in 1987. A huge round of applause for Lucas, our new middle school cross country record-holder!
High School: Coffee Cafe with Mrs. Heisler
Once a week, teachers at the high school can order coffee, tea, or hot chocolate for themselves or for a friend and Mrs. Heisler's students deliver orders directly to their classroom during first period. Thank you for keeping our staff caffeinated!
