PRINCIPAL UPDATE
There have been many concerning incidents happening on our school buses lately where students are engaging in unsafe behaviors resulting in students getting injured. We have had to issue consequences, including suspensions. Riding the school bus is a privilege and if students break the rules and participate in unsafe behaviors, a suspension may be enforced, and we do realize this impacts families. Our first concern must be student safety. If your child rides a school bus, we would appreciate your help in reviewing the bus rules and reinforcing school bus safety with your child. We will be doing the same at school. The consistency of these conversations happening at home and at school is very much appreciated.

THE GREAT KINDNESS CHALLENGE
Northeast will once again be participating in The Great Kindness Challenge during the week of February 12-16. We have a committee planning a week full of spreading kindness, including All School Meetings, theme days, kindness activities, and a special visiting artist treat for students and staff.
The Great Kindness Challenge (GKC) is a proactive and positive bullying prevention initiative that improves school climate and increases student engagement. The Great Kindness Challenge is one week devoted to performing as many acts of kindness as possible in school. During this powerful, unifying, and uplifting week, students are challenged to complete as many acts of kindness as they can using the customizable checklist. The GKC gives every student an opportunity to model kindness and develop key social-emotional skills that are vital for school and life success.
Included here are some kindness acts and activities that you can do together as a family!
NORTHEAST STEAM NIGHT
Save the Date for Northeast Elementary School's second annual STEAM Night on Friday, March 1st from 5:00-7:00pm! This is a FREE event for the whole family!
WPS 5th ANNUAL PARENTING AWARENESS CONFERENCE
Registration is now open for the Waltham Public Schools 5th Annual Parenting Awareness Conference. This year the conference will be held on Saturday, March 9th from 8:00am - 1:30pm at Kennedy Middle School.
We are actively looking for presenters, information tablets, and volunteers.

PREK-2 LITERACY FAIR
Please see the information about Literacy Fair for PreK-2 students and families on Wednesday, March 13 from 2:00 - 4:00pm in the Northeast Cafeteria.
