Ms. Coston's Family and Consumer Sciences students...
expanded on their sewing projects to include electrical circuits so their creations had light up eyes and other features.
Ms. Powell's Students Created Amazing Invention Literacy Projects About the Guilded Age
Students started by learning about the process
of invention by working with Makey Makeys.
Students then selected an invention from the Progressive
Era to create. Some students also created medication molecules such as aspirin.
Their invention literacy study finished with a gallery
walk where students showcased their invention process.

Makerspace Activities
Creating Batik in Honor of Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month!
Batik is a craft similar to
tie-dye, but with an extra step.
Instead of just dyeing the fabric, students
were given wax pencils and other permanent marking tools
Any designs that are drawn on the fabric prior to
dyeing the fabric "resist" the dye and remain.
Windtunnel
Students used fans and created flying objects to move out of the wind-tunnel they made!
Microbit Monsters
Students learned the basics of coding with
Micro.bits.
They applied their knowledge of coding the Micro.bits
to create light up eyes and other features for their Micro.bit monsters
Teachers were invited to vote on their work at the end of
the day. Thank you to the 13 teachers and staff who came out to vote for the best monster!
Global Connections
Invention Literacy Google Hangout with Lakeside Hot Springs 8th grade students.
Both history classes showcased their maker projects about American History and inventions through the Hangout.
Skype with Author Steven Emond
the author of Bright Lights, Dark Nights.
Members of the Lakeside Book Club enjoyed
interacting with the author.
He explained to the L.B.C. about how he became
an author and the important role his art background plays in his work.
Students also showed off their artwork that
was done in the style of the author's drawings that are featured between the chapters of Bright Lights, Dark Nights. He was impressed by their work!
