KCSD & Me: News update
July 7, 2021
Masks welcome but no longer required
Dear KCSD community,
As of July 6, social distancing and masks are welcome but no longer required in our schools and district buildings. This applies to all summer school programs and bus routes.
The state has lifted COVID-19 restrictions, and the Oregon Department of Education’s new guidance, effective June 30, recommends but no longer requires the wearing of face coverings or physical distancing in schools. The updated Ready Schools Safe Learners document for the 2021-22 school year is advisory, which allows local districts to determine best practices for their students and schools.
The district will continue its cleaning and disinfection protocols in all buildings and hand sanitizer stations will be available at school entrances. Hygiene etiquette will remain an important prevention tool for students and staff. We also want to remind parents to keep children who are not feeling well home from any school programs or activities.
As we did this past year, Klamath County School District will work with Klamath County Public Health in determining how best to move forward. Our plans are to return to a normal school year schedule with full-time, in-person learning without face coverings and other restrictions.
The best way to ensure this happens is to continue to practice health protocols – washing hands, covering coughs, and staying home when you are sick. Vaccination is considered the most powerful tool for stopping the spread of COVID-19. Everyone age 12 and older is eligible for a free vaccine. If you have not yet, consider getting vaccinated this summer.
We will update our staff and families in August. Enjoy the rest of your summer!
Respectfully,
Glen Szymoniak
