Frayne Today
News & Updates K - 12 | Term 1 Week 2
Principal's Welcome
DEAR PARENTS, GUARDIANS, STUDENTS & STAFF
Welcome to the first edition of Frayne Today, a new fortnightly publication keeping our community updated on College operations, celebrations and College event celebrations and Friends of Frayne activities. The name Frayne Today, was chosen to reflect the intention of this communication - to bring focus and presence, in addition to ensuring a contemporary College community.
The College year began with activity and purpose. It has been some time since I have been in a K-12 school community. It has been a delight to witness the joy, excitement and vibrance of all students of every year level. Our grounds and classrooms were well-prepared and presentable for the start of the year. Thank you to our Grounds and Administration teams for the preparations made for our students and teachers.
The opportunity to converse with so many colleagues and parents in just two weeks has been a wonderful introduction to the community. It was special to share the excitement and style of the Year 12 Ball, the Year 12 Commissioning Liturgy, a special welcome to the Kindergarten students, opening masses, parent information sessions and the Friends of Frayne induction evening.
A special evening was held with the Friends of Frayne Class Coordinators. We are blessed to have a dedicated and generous group of parents volunteering to support our staff and students through their community-building projects and activities. (In the coming week primary school parents will receive a letter sharing the name of their Class Coordinator and an invitation to opt out if you do not want your contact details shared with this person).
Our College theme for 2024 is Respect. We have defined respect for our community as finding and recognising the good in all things, others, ourselves and the environment. Embracing this year's theme requires us all to appreciate, recognise and affirm the gifts and talents of all.
As I look ahead to Week 3 there are more activities to anticipate such as Year 7 Camp and the Junior School Parent Evening. I highlight Ash Wednesday, which will signal the beginning of the time of Lent - a time to reflect.

YEAR 12 COMMISSIONING EVENING
In the beautiful setting of the College courtyard our Year 12 students participated in a special commissioning ceremony. All students were called by name and received their Year 12 badges. After receiving their badges the students made their community pledge from the courtyard balconies. Our College staff are committed to making Year 12 a special year and we could not be more proud of our students in the way they have started the year. We acknowledge Mr Adam Waddell, the inaugural Head of Year 12, for his leadership of the evening along with the support of Mr Joe Sciorilli.

USE OF STUDENT IMAGERY
If you DO NOT wish for your son or daughter's image to be publicised on any external channels in 2024, please sign and return the attached objection form. Please note, this form needs to be completed each year.
FREE PUBLIC TRANSPORT FOR STUDENTS
From Monday 5 February 2024, any primary and secondary school students with a valid Student SmartRider will be able to travel for free on Transperth services for any journey Monday to Friday, until the end of the school year. Students need to tag on and off, or they will receive a default fare. If their SmartRider goes into a negative balance as a result, they will not have access to free travel.
For schools located near the Armadale/Thornlie Line, students can now access their free travel via their Student SmartRider instead of the Shutdown free travel passes.
FAQs:
What if I don't get my Student SmartRider until the end of February? Given some school students don’t get their SmartRiders until the end of February, if a student does not have a SmartRider on 5 February they will be allowed to travel for free without a valid ticket, however, from 1 March students must have their Student SmartRider to travel for free or purchase a cash ticket. When students have received their Student SmartRider they should start using it immediately by tagging on and off each journey to avoid their SmartRider failing to activate.Where can I find out more information about Student SmartRiders? Visit this website for more information.
YOUR MOVE
We are pleased to announce that the Duncan Street Campus has now joined the Balmoral Street Campus as members of the Your Move Schools program. (https://www.yourmove.org.au/schools/)
Your Move is a Department of Transport program that encourages students and their families to get active by walking, scooting and riding to school, or catching public transport, more often.
Simply by changing how your son or daughter travels to school a few times each week can deliver lifelong benefits. Increasing active transport to school has been proven to lower childhood obesity, establish healthy habits and improve concentration and academic performance.
Reducing the number of cars around the school at drop off and pick up times also helps improve safety and reduces pollution.
Read below for upcoming initiatives at each campus – getting involved in these events can help the College earn points that can translate into funding for active transport facilities and activities.
Your Move @ Balmoral Street Campus
Balmoral will continue with yearly activities such as
- Ride2School Day – Friday 22 March

Music Notes
The Music Department welcomes all returning and new students enrolled in the music tuition lesson program for 2024.
MUSIC TUITION
Music Tuition lessons commenced from Monday 5 February 2024 and all parents of students enrolled should have now received an email communication from their child’s music tutor. The communication should have included information regarding your child’s music lesson day and time.
SEQTA TUTOR
The College has introduced a new music lesson timetabling program called SEQTA Tutor. This program communicates with the entire SEQTA suite, ie SEQTA Teach, Learn and Engage.
Duncan Students | All timetabled music lessons will appear in the student’s electronic timetable in SEQTA and can be seen by the student, the parent and the classroom teacher. Any changes to lessons in SEQTA Tutor will automatically update across the SEQTA suite.
Balmoral Students | Balmoral student music lessons are also accessible in SEQTA Teach and Engage; however, music tutors will continue to communicate via email to the parents regarding lessons and any changes that may occur. Music tutors will continue to collect our younger students from PP to Year 4 from their class to attend their lessons.
MUSIC GROUPS/ENSEMBLES
Students from Year 3-12 | Most music groups are scheduled to commence in Week 3 and the ensemble director should communicate the day, time and venue for rehearsals. These groups will include the following.

KINDY PLAYDATE
Friends of Frayne hosted a play date in the January holidays for our sweet little incoming Kindy kids. It’s such a lovely opportunity for them to meet their peers and teachers whilst familiarising themselves with their new school. The kids enjoyed some water play, riding on the race track with their scooters, an icy pole and they each took home a little bubble wand from Friends of Frayne.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to our organiser extraordinaire, Christina Mandanici, for all of her efforts in the lead up to this event, along with our resident shopper Josie D'Aqui and our helpers on the day, Nikki Middleton and her daughter Violet. Well done ladies and thank you for donating your time on the holidays! We are sure the Kindy kids and their parents/carers benefited from this extra opportunity.

GODS HANDS | A MESSAGE FROM FATHER BELLO
Welcome to the New School Year 2024. It was nice to start the year with our school masses.
Even Christ set high the mark when He said: “You are the light of the world”. "Your light must shine for all to see". This can sound very demanding; too much for us, but we need to understand what Christ is asking. We do not have to produce our own light, since Christ has said: “I am the light of the world”, identifying himself with the light. We are called to transmit the light of Christ to others, each one of us in the unique way that we are.
Every Christian aims to love God and neighbour with all our minds, our hearts and our wills and to unite them to the mind, heart and will of God. This indeed is a beautiful endeavour for this new school year as we set to live our motto “centred in Christ”.
