28 Students To Compete
The Spelling Bee Regional program is open to all schools in the DCMO and the ONC BOCES region. This year, school champions from Afton, Cherry Valley-Springfield, Cooperstown, Edmeston, Gilbertsville-Mt Upton, Gilboa-Conesville, Margaretville, Morris, Oneonta, Roxbury, Stamford, South Kortright, Windham Ashland, and Worcester schools, will compete at the regional spelling bee competition event on Saturday February 3, 2024.
The event will be held at the SUNY Oneonta's Goodrich Theater beginning at 10:00 am. Family and friends are welcome to attend and watch the competition. Those unable to attend will have the opportunity to watch the competition to be streamed live on the DCMO BOCES Facebook page.
The winner of the regional competition will represent our region at the 2024 National Spelling Bee event in Washington DC. next summer. Thanks to the sponsorship support from the Daily Star and contributions from many businesses and supporters, the champion will receive traveling expense stipend, lodging accommodations, and many prizes from the SCRIPPS organization.

The Daily Star Renews Sponsorship
DCMO BOCES raises funds to cover a stipend for transportation, meals, and some expenses for the speller. They also offset the cost of refreshments for family and friends to join the spellers at the competition event. The public is invited to watch the competition. Family and friends are encouraged to participate in the event to cheer and support the participants.
Daily Star Managing Director Valerie Secor said the paper looks forward to the spelling bee every year. The support from the Daily Star makes this program possible for all the region's schools.

Learn More About the Spelling Bee Program
Watch with your kids the movie Akeelah and the Bee. It captures the journey of an underrepresented student from her school competition to winning at the national competition. This movie is now free to watch and it is an excellent tool to encourage young people to consider competing.
